My wife and I specifically went to “the square” to visit the cats back in 2012. At that time there was talk about prohibiting the cats but I’m happy to see nothing became of it. Cats at ancient sites in Italy is pretty common place but one of our favorite places for hanging out with cats was at a small cafe up in the mountain top village of Delphi Greece. Love the Italian tribute to your kitties! Wonderful video again Chris.

Did you know that this kinda happened in some ancient ruins in turkey? there is not a shelter though... @@HalfAsleepChris I discussed the issue of coronavirus with them. It turns out that they have done some very useful research on this: cleaning all the litter boxes with bleach and preventing new cats from sharing their litter boxes has cut the death rate from feline infectious peritonitis down dramatically. It's a pity that other cat sanctuaries won't follow suit.

Dinar AndFriends one of my cats died of FIP. But as I understand it, almost all the cats are infected with the corona virus. And they don’t know exactly why the virus mutates in some cats, so they die. The mutation is NOT contagious for other cats. And cleaning with bleach is not necessary. The virus doesn’t survive common soap. And bleach is very bad for the environment, really bad.
@DinarAndFriends5 жыл бұрын
@@jannetteberends8730 >>as I understand it, almost all the cats are infected with the corona virus A lot of cats are, but most are not shedding it in their faeces. >>The mutation is NOT contagious for other cats. The reason why FIP cats typically don't transmit the mutated virus is because they are not shedding it by the time the disease develops, not because the mutated virus is not contagious. >>The virus doesn’t survive common soap. Do you have a link to research which backs this up? Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. >>And bleach is very bad for the environment, really bad. If you are referring to sodium hypochlorite then it's not particularly harmful because the hypochlorite ion degrades rapidly. It can form organic chloride compounds which are dangerous. However, the tiny amount used to clean out a cat litter when the cat has died or moved on is trivial. I would be (vastly) more concerned with the amount sprayed onto their cruelty-raised factory-farmed chickens.

This is my favorite place in Rome! I found it by accident the first time, wandering around the streets. Looked over the edge into the sanctuary and started noticing cats. Lots of cats. It was amazing! I visited them properly then and every time I go back to Rome (I go once every two years, and in my defense, it's my favorite city to visit), I make it a point to go. I end up spending a few hours there, almost every single time. I always donate. Always. They do AMAZING work. These cats are so well loved!

If you ever come to Valencia or Madrid, make sure to visit their cat cafés (La Fábrica de Huellas in Valencia and La Gatoteca in Madrid). They're both amazing organisation that focus on giving cats a lovely forever home and in educating humans about respectful co-habitation with cats. I'm particularly fond of La Fábrica de Huellas, I go there every week for a milkshake and some cuddles and plan on adopting one of their cats as soon as I get a job. They don't have a time limit of their visits, only ask you to consume something while you're there to help with the project. La Gatoteca is lovely as well but has a time=prize situation (1 hour is €6.50 and includes something to drink). I still make sure to visit it when I visit Madrid.
