Thanks for this realistic seeming assessment. I tried Rome with a collapsible cane about 20 years ago figuring by the time the wheelchair hit I'd be too sick to get there. Back then there was NOTHING for people with a handicap: I got to the sistine chapel by hobbling from room to room, the guards in each room standing up and offering me their seats to rest in until I could gather enough strength to make it to the next room. I spent days staring at the ceiling in the youth hostel recovering, being mocked by some of the other youth hostellers who thought because I had an American accent that made me a complainer and a faker. I gave up and went home to my relatives in Vienna, having had a much better time in the other European cities. The advantage was the crowds were substantially less. Now I'm using a walker and debating whether it's worth trying to go back to Rome. Some able friends I could stay with, but not sure it's worth fighting the cobblestones and the crowds and the attitudes. Thinking of trying some of the smaller surrounding towns instead. Found your video helpful, thanks again.

Thanks for your video. I am taking my mother around Rome and disabled facilities with wheelchair are a must. Keep doing travel blog on wheelchair. Thanks

Thanks for the comment. Rome is a very tough city to get around in a wheelchair even for a young, strong person like me. Plan ahead!

Unfortunately, Rome is not accessible for independent wheelchair travellers. There are architectural barriers everywhere in Rome. It is wise if you make you accompany by somebody else with you.

Thanks for the comment. In my case, it wouldn't have been any easier with someone with me. Bigger, thicker tires would have helped getting over all that cobblestone.

I found ancient roads in Europe were not made with wheelchair users in mind. Still worth it. Other than my poor 13 year old daughter had to “wheel me” over many a surface

I haven't gained one helpful point for being disabled while visiting Rome, Italy from your videos. One exception is your coverage of the Vatican and the Colesseum. Well done. been there in my disabled situation so I agree with your assertation of it. Try to improve your semi-bad attitude. Count your blessings.

Vince, I think your attitude is perfectly refreshing. So tired of watching peppy people with various bendy diseases who happen to sit in wheelchairs do a peppy influencer-style routine telling people how great it is to travel with a disability. It sucks a lot of the time and we need more people who tell the TRUTH ABOUT COBBLESTONES. Thank you!!!
