Florence Lawrence played Juliet in this, the first ever film adaptation of history's greatest romance, likely before 1908.
She began starring in films for Vitagraph Studios in New York with her soon-to-be-husband and many time director Harry Solter in 1906. In 1908, the two of them would begin working for the American Biograph Company, located on East 14th Street in New York City.
At the time, film actors received no credit for their roles in movies. But Florence Lawrence's acting would so endear her to audiences across the country that she became known as "The Biograph Girl" - the first movie star of all time.
