The first time I've heard this in 1973,i was in first year high school, I can't forget the melody and rhythm that registers in my mind/heart, now I'm in my 58th years of life, a retired police commission officer of the Philippine national police, still I love/like the song/melody...

David Gates has a very adroit way of adapting lyrics to music. I can't believe this single narrowly missed the Top 40! Excellent! Bravo, David!

When I was 12 years old in 1981 and discovered this song from my mom's record... and i couldn't help loving this song so much... This song keeps haunting in my mind for years. I can't forget how many beautiful moments it gave me whenever I listened to it in those good old days... Such a beautiful piece of art work.... Thanks a lot David Gates.

I had a heck of a time getting a copy of this single when it came out in 1973. I had to special order from a dept. store. Rode my best friend's 10 speed bike 12 miles each way to order and to pick it up but it was worth it.

The most beautiful English song I have ever heard. My older brother showed it to me when I was around 13 years old. It took me 20 more years to understand the lyrics and, let me tell you: I was not disappointed!

I've always loved David Gates and the Bread. First heard their LP from my dad's collection back in 1982,was a young lass then. Fast forward, my neuro patient played it through her CD player the other day, says she found comfort in listening to it. Fair enough, replayed it many times, good thing other patients were very considerate of her. So here I am, decluttering my mind through this timeless classic.

my dad told me that he passed this as a poem assignment in class and his teacher did not know the song, thus, did not catch him :) now that he is gone, I came back looking for this song and it feels like he is talking to me, telling me he'll visit me for a while sometimes. Papa, I miss you but I'll see you again :)

Probably the best song that never hit the top 40. Although I knew David Gates and Bread as I was born in 1960, I did not know this song until my girlfriend shared it with me about 10 years ago. I was traveling with work about 3 weeks every month, and she used this song as a kind of “coping mechanism”. When we broke up a few years later, the song became MY coping mechanism - so full of hope, wonder and joy.

Thanks for posting a beautiful song a beautiful voice. I used to close my door listen to this whole album as my mom was in th kitchen and my dad was in the garage or watching baseball. They're gone now and it's ok but I miss them and then dearly. Muffet-it's alright. You just need to understand what is truly good for you -you will have. What is not good for you-you will not have. All this will be clear if you keep your eyes open enough to see.. Wishing peace of mind to all....

On this day in 1973 {July 8th} "Clouds" by David Gates entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #71; and on August 12th, 1973 it peaked at #47 {for 2 weeks} and spent 8 weeks on the Top 100... The record's B-side is a cute little tune titled "I Use The Soap"... As a solo artist he had seven Top 100 records between 1973 and 1981, his biggest hit was "Goodbye Girl", it reached #15 {for 2 weeks} on April 9th, 1978... Bread had thirteen Top 100 records between 1970 and 1977... Mr. Gates will celebrate his 74th birthday this coming December 11th, 2014...
