@cammobeauty it's a subgenre. While it holds its musical essence, its lyrics are heavily influenced by hip hop, and as you can see also the way they dress and carry themselves. I understand it was a total shock for you guys because this is just not something your used to. However it is very popular music amongst the Latin youth. If you look at the charts I believe there is a corrido in the worldwide #1 spot.

Trap mariachi You nailed it! Is funny bc chicanos from the west coast back in the 2018 started a new wave of corridos know as trap corridos. Then it follows corridos tumbados and more recently trap mariachi!

btw, a way you could get a better picture of it is if you go out and look for former Corrido artist, to first set a precedence on what it its outside the trap influence, and any similarity to american or foreign trap you may know. cuz trap went global, yeah, yet in Mexico it mixd with a traditional genre with 100 years of history, so eventhough it looks familiar, there's a load of background to get use to, specially if you think mexican music is "mariachi" lol. There's also similarities between mexican an american "gangster culture", cuz of proximity rather than influence from one to another. This important to get the idea that mexico's got its own culture round it. Yet the youth's got lots of influence from trap music, so you gotta see the grillz and all that. And if you continue with it, get the lyrics beforehand in english, or hmu and i can explain a bit on it before listening to it, im a translator from mx. Hope you continue on your journey through our modern music, as it is making waves across latam and getting far outside our continent.
