But I think the most beautiful park view is right at Queensbrodge and the park has been greatly improved - nice to see the families out with picnics and watching the dominimo games going on on a late summer afternoon. I hope they bring back the outdoor music concerts - maybe mixing it up with different styles.

Let me say the place is fine in the daytime and has some fine beauty there despite its problems. It also has a great history dating from the 30's - used to be very integrated with black and white thru the 60's. There is a fascinating video doc about Queensbridge Houses on youtube. Finally, gentrification is occurring all around it - there are now 20 something hotels and you get tourists from around the world staying not far from Queensbridge (on Cresent Street or 29th)

Yeah I agree about the gentrification having a very adverse effect - trust me I know living in a rent stabilized apt. My point too that Queensbridge Projects actually possesses a beauty of its own - many people forget how green the older projects are - all the trees and walkways - Woodside Houses too has these nice green spaces around. And you guys have access to that great park - if rich folk were there, the damn park would have been fixed in a heartbeat. We need mayors like LaGuardia

That's ironic leading off a documentary on Queensbridge with music by KRS-1, an artist who made a career out of mocking Queensbridge. I guess he did make people more aware of the place even if it was by dissing them.

I hear about gentrification I'd be pissed if I grew up in any of the NYC hoods where it's happening . But also see the positives as Queensbridge probably safer now somewhat. I myself walked through Queensbridge 21st Street while visiting NYC by myself and I'm from UK ...I would have never risked it 10 or 20 years ago as would have been too scared although I still was but that's because was my 1st time in New York coming from England

Actually Queensbridge has gotten much safer in the past 25years. It probably has the best location of all the public housing in NYC - the view of Manhattan would be worth millions elsewhere and yes a ton of rap starts and musicians come from there - and in general the whole LIC/Astoria area. Basically, I can walk through this area until early eve with no problem - but I am white, big and 6'1" male. I would not go there after 11 pm unless I was staying over.

@alphabet661 All around it in LIC, Astoria area has always been ok. It's just in the PJs that hasn't. There were Black folks living in Astoria/LIC areas way back in the days until they were forced out and eventually majority left were the ones in the PJ's. True gentrification of the general area may be a bad thing. There has always been talk about displacing folks of Astoria/Queensbridge,destroying, and building luxury apts that will have great views of manhattan across the river.
