I'm very proud of you. I live in Montréal (which is the safest Canadian state because of conservative politics provided by CAQ) and I have always liked it here. Every time my Californian friends visit me they almost don't want to go back. Here there is no need to be afraid when leaving your home at night, no need to be afraid of drug addicts (But in Toronto there is!) and I am proud of that. My mother moved us in 1969 from upstate New York when I was 8 to California. It was a very beautiful state. Lived in Los Angeles Co and Ventura Co for most of my life. I moved from California before it went to total sh@t 7 years ago and moved to Texas. I love it here! No graffiti, no trash, neighbors are the best, go to Fort Worth to shop and never a problem. Returned to California for a funeral in March and couldn't leave fast enough.

It might appear to be that way….in truth, the high cost of living there is part of the problem, why desperate actions are so easy to understand, and why there is local empathy for the criminals. The real time results: these actions are creating retail deserts because the big chains are pulling out (they cannot afford to subsidize the criminals). This makes it easier to charge more for the ones who are still there and where there are no options, serious cost increases even price gouging exists. A vicious cycle has been put into motion and will be hard to reverse.

They're stealing two dozen $20 jugs of laundry soap, make up, televisions, designer shoes and clothes by the carts full. They're doing this because they can make quick cash with no repercussions which is much easier than working and paying taxes. These people can make upwards of $20 an hour flipping burgers in CA but choose to commit crimes which affect law abiding citizens, who are already over taxed. If they were stealing cereal and milk to feed their kids you'd have an argument, but with every fast food place (low skilled jobs) you see posting help wanted signs whole people are out there filling bags with lipstick and conditioners to sell on the street for half the price your argument fails.

I work in a retail store in Sacramento, CA (state capital of California) and it is frustrating to witness kids, drug addicts and bums walk into your store to shop lift knowing there are no consequences.
