To quote Monty Python, "A tiger? In Africa??"
I love Tarzan, in all his forms. From the original Burroughs novels, to the comics, films and TV adaptions. Hey, I even live in Tarzana, California, the former location of Edgar Rice Burrough's ranch, which he bought from the proceeds of his spectacularly successful pulp hero!
However, when I was growing up there was really only one Tarzan. TV's Ron Ely who, week after week, would right wrongs on the African savannah (actually, it was Brazil and Mexico, doubling as Africa...)
Ron appeared at Wondercon 2013, in Anaheim as a guest of the Warner Archives panel, to talk about his times playing not one, but two, iconic heroes of the golden era of pulp magazines: Tarzan and Doc Savage.
During the panel, Ron - a fantastic storyteller (he gave up acting to become a novelist!) - related the tale of a Tarzan episode which required him to brawl with a tiger.
Enjoy!
