"ethnicity- the fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition" Ethnicity refers to his ancestral background, and has nothing to do with whether or not someone has set foot in a certain place, seeing as how culture and tradition are transferable from location to location. According to Dave himself, he is of 100% Irish ancestral extraction and therefore, "ethnically" Irish. For instance when Dave was saying he had Italian friends or was shit talking with callers, he was referring to and interacting with people of Italian ancestry who were primarily from the tri-state area who themselves likely have never been to Italy, even if he began by talking about a soccer team made up entirely of Italian citizens.

He doesn't, but he eats the same shitty food as the Irish immigrants who built their own bastardized Irish culture in America and for that same reason he calls himself a Catholic despite repeatedly demonstrating he has no idea how the religion works. And if the rest of the world has a problem with Americans identifying culturally to an extent by ancestral background (seeing as how few Americans can claim to have ancestors endemic to any part of North America), then the rest of the world can go fuck themselves. Also, any conceit you perceive stems purely from insecurity on your part; identifying based on cultural background rather than nationality has absolutely nothing to do with ego or superciliousness. "Italians laugh at that shit." That's nice. I've been to Italy and I enjoyed the brief time I spent there, but if they that need desperately to feel superior to Americans as to claim conceit on an issue that has nothing to do with how America feels toward other countries who don't engage in the same sets of cultural practices, then maybe it must not be that great after all
