Exactly :-) Some people say "let's remove Ron from the series" and don't realize that without Ron, there would be no Weasleys in Harry's life! At least in the first four books. Fred and George were two years older, I doubt they would have become friends from the get go. No Mrs. Weasley who was like a mother to him, no getting through the enchanted chess board, no saving Harry from the Dursleys in the flying car, no Quidditch World Cup... even no knowing the exact number of horcruxes, because it was Ron who persuaded Harry to take Felix Felicis in order to get the crucial horcrux memory from Slughorn.

Exactly, he's the only one of the three who goes through puberty with all its ups and downs, and we see him develop from a kid to a teenager and then to a brave and dependable man. Somebody said that Ron's story shows that you can become a hero even though you aren't the bravest or the smartest one (you're "just" the funniest one) and you feel like a nobody.
