I mean, I've never seen anything like that. That's not how peak football should look like, that's just incomprehensibly phenomenal. How he gained that much speed in short range, how he envisualised the physics of the ball to position it exactly where he wanted, and just dribble and dribble making the ball rotate in a way so dynamic it doesn't even seen human anymore. He never stopped, he and the ball were one thing, and that's insane. Ronaldo in his prime had his opponents stay awake in the nights because they were afraid of facing him, and we are not talking about small fries but Cannavaro, Thuram, Costacurta etc. absolute top defenders. There is a compilation of him destroying the best defenders of his period. Apart from that, you have to been born in that era to fully understand what he was. The thing with pre-injury Ronaldo is that he had a big frame, yet he moved like if he was very small and nimble, with almost no time from going from zero to full speed and viceversa and chaging directions almost at 90 degrees without losing speed, like if he was inmune to inertial forces. It was like watching a buffalo jump around like a gazelle, and thus the otherworldly aesthetic quality he had. It just didnt seem real. Not even Messi nor Ronaldinho had this quality to their movements. After the injury he retained a lot of his speed but lost that nimbleness, so he needed more time to achieve full speed. He was still faster than most though

Best player in the world by the time he was barely 20, and he was head and shoulders above the rest even while he was playing in the toughest league with the toughest defenders, getting tackled like it was World War 3 nearly every time he touched the ball. So for me Ronaldo is by far the best player I have ever seen. This man was truly something else before his injuries and even afterwards to a lesser extent. (To be fair, I never saw Pele play and only saw Maradona when he was old, so I can't judge those 2 guys.)

That's my view. He did have an incredible career later on at Real Madrid - but that was 70% Ronaldo - he couldn't dribble at that point because of his knees. From 96-99 - he was the best player the world has ever seen. I'm absolutely convinced about that. Imagine what he would have been had we seen his peak. It's almost difficult to conceive. Still, he did amazingly well to come back to the top after snapping his patella tendon. Nobody else in the history of the game has ever come back from that injury to the top level - apart from el fenomeno.

Man this guy is the best forward of all time, he does skills just to dribble pass players nothing looks fancy because he does it so quick, he can run all alone from the field halfway, sad we don't see players like him anymore, these defenders looks like they just wants to kill him, amount of jumps he has to make while opponents slide tackling left and right is insane, that's the reason he had so many injuries, and impacted his career real bad.

@@kajus8570 yup. His knees couldnt take his playing style and gave way. The game has changed dramatically. More tactics involved and more emphasis on ball movement and possession. Will probably never see a guy like R9 do all those things on the pitch ever again. Players are more conscientious about ther careers and take fewer risks on the field. Longer career leads to higher earnings.
