Luís Figo went to Catalunya in mid 90's. Then moved to Madrid in 2000. In 2005, when the Beckham Law was applied, he was already in Milan to play for Inter and finish his Brilliant career. So I refute that one sentence in a great video, as usual :)

Tax is rubbish anyway. A tax cut helps everybody. Plus this is the way Italy's economy grows... By attracting people like Ronaldo, more people market Italian football, Italian television income, media income, advertising income, goes up as a result and all sorts of investment comes in. That's more important than tax, if you think about it. Plus if there's little services there's little need for tax.

In 2005, Beckham Law was passed where foreign workers can choose to be non residents and hence only pay taxes from their income generated in Spain. So people can create shell company somewhere else for their image rights, sponsorship etc and not be taxed. However in 2015, they modified it to exclude athletes, and then they backdated it from 2010... That was why most high profile foreign athletes in Spain been charged

Yes, it was like this, Beckham Law was rectified in 2010, however during that time foreign individuals who granted the privilege before 2010 can still using 2005 ruling. But in 2015, the decree passed where they should use 2010 ruling instead since the 2010 rectification, hence the backdated. Maybe I simplified or misunderstand a little but that is what I could gather off
