This is amazing! 16 levels! I always used to listen to the sample and wonder how he manipulated it to get that half step up and down. Plus the way he laced the kick with the drums already in the sample. Hard AF. One of the greatest songs ever.

Correction, Diamond who is a friend of mine, is not the first to use this sample. My inspiration came from Marley marley and Biz Markie who is actually first to discover it. I just used it differently than they did.

Yo I got a question: why does he play with the velocity of the pads to lower and raise the pitch? it slows the sample down momentarily, is that his whole idea from the get go? could he have also just changed the sample pitch directly?

That's what gives the beat the quick switch up and and gets rid of too much repetitiveness. Yes he could've also changed the pitch for the original sample and used that but there's no need because 16 levels does the same thing.
