The itching is a histamine release or a “runner’s itch”. Your blood vessels are expanding. When you work out your heart pumps blood and oxygen to your muscles which is what causes the expansion. However, when your body is used to working out and then it’s at rest for minute and goes back to working out, the pumping of blood and oxygen to your muscles are working even harder to play catch up so to speak. That’s what the itching/inflamed feeling is. Your brain interprets the expansion of your blood vessels as an “itch”. It can also happen to ppl who don’t work out but are exposed to very cold temps. I can so relate! I experience the itching/hives also when working out and sometimes when it’s chili outdoors. They say it’s urticaria. Recommended to take Claritin before workouts. It’s an awful feeling when working out and this happens. Hoping it gets resolved!
