@@rondrotoskeyboardimprov9453 if you would do one on either the compositions Laura or Sweet Lorraine (basically only the bridge on that one) I think that would be so interesting .

@@henrysmartt5149 Those are great tunes too, Henry! Sweet Lorraine in particular is one of my favorites, especially as played by Art Tatum.

Hi Evan, I'm glad this is helping you with your music! That's one of my goals with these videos - to give you the experience of looking over someone's shoulders as they play jazz tunes. Good luck with your music!

Really enjoyed that. Listening to you I felt at times , you were ready to break out into a blues motif in the improv but u held back ( perhaps avoiding another detour ). Did I read u correctly or was it me. Great job. Sorry I’m jumping around the book so much. 😊

Thanks Arthur, and this is an interesting question about the bluesiness. It's definitely hinting in that direction. I remember thinking of the singers from the 30s-50s, like Jo Stafford and Billie Holiday. So the blues inflections are part of that style.

Smooth road, clear day But why am I the only one Travelin' this way How strange the road you love Should be so easy Can there be a detour ahead Wake up, slow down Before you crash and break your heart Gullible clown You fool, you're headin' In the wrong direction Can't you see the detour ahead The further you travel The harder to unravel The way he spins around you Turn back while there is time Can't you see the danger sign Soft shoulders surround you Smooth road, clear night Oh lucky me, that suddenly I saw the light I'm turning back away From all this trouble Smooth road, smooth road No detour ahead
