Gisborne iwi Rongowhakaata packed out Te Papa Museum today at the opening of their tribal exhibition, Ko Rongowhakaata: Ruku I Te Pō, Ruku I Te Ao. The pōwhiri took place in front of the famed Rongowhakaata meeting house - Te Hau ki Tūranga. For decades it's been the centrepiece exhibit of our national museum, and as Eruera Rerekura discovered it appears it won't be returned home anytime soon as talks continue between the crown and the East Coast iwi.
