@RonHenry
@RonHenry 3 жыл бұрын
Heya Splash. Negate is a great product but the way you have to mix it isn't the best for most home owners. The label calls for the entire bottle to be mixed with a gallon into an intermediate mix and then a few ounces of that mixed with a gallon for water for spot spraying. It's a lot to explain in a video and probably a bit intimidating for a total newbie. 🤓
@SplashBucketz

Your delivery is excellent. But, improve your video with an “after” so we can see if this approach works. Poa annua and dollar weed are susceptible to Image but as any yard/gardener knows, one application is rarely adequate. Image is very temperature sensitive. You’re wearing a jacket and the Bermuda is very dormant suggesting very cool weather. I’ve never had success with your method. Apply when it’s 80* and sunny & it’s a different result entirely. Have you any suggestions on PREVENTING poa annua? It appears this lawn had a preventive pre-emerge and that only failed in the wettest spots.
@RonHenry
@RonHenry Жыл бұрын
To prevent poa in warm season turf either use Spectacle Flo or a combination of Princep, Prodiamine and Image. Agree that Image works much slower in cooler weather. A better / faster option for removing poa is to use Certainty. golfcourselawn.store/collections/lawn-weed-killers Thanks for watching.
@MrLuigi-oi7gm
@MrLuigi-oi7gm 4 ай бұрын
Image needs to be watered in as it needs to get to the weed's roots to be effective. This is the biggest mistake in using the product and why some claim it is a poor performer. If you read the directions on the label, the specifics are addressed clearly...so read the directions! You should also not apply Image to freshly mowed, actively growing desired turf. Wait a couple days after mowing. Again, this is addressed in the directions. Gotta love those directions! 😊

@@RonHenry , I don't want edging between my flower bed and Bermuda grass. What is the best weed killer I can use to kill Bermuda grass and not my plants?
@RonHenry
@RonHenry 3 жыл бұрын
There’s not really one. You can use glyphosate/roundup but you have to keep it away from your desirable plants. II would put pavers (or some barrier) between the lawn and flower beds. That would give you an area to spray that’s not the lawn and not the beds. It’ll reduce the chance of damaging either area.
@smk791
@smk791 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron! Lots of discussion on 41% glyphosate on dormant Bermuda. It works well at a rate of 8-16 oz/A, which is not easy to measure for the average homeowner. Also, for some reason in the last few years Zone 8 has been unusually warm in Jan and Feb which is the only possible window for a dormant application. The Bermuda has not really been fully dormant and sometimes spot spraying glyphosate results in unsightly patches and dead spots at green up. Applications in March for sure will delay green up. Its not worth it because selective herbicides for winter annuals are relatively inexpensive and a specialty herbicide for killing cool season grasses in warm season turf can be worth the investment because the amount used is so little per 1000 sq. ft. A tank mixture of Prodiamine, Princep and Monument with surfactant in the fall will result in nearly 99% control of winter weeds including POA in the spring.
@RonHenry
@RonHenry 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the detailed response SMK. I've personally seen what glyphosate in winter months can do to a Bermuda lawn come spring time which why I won't do it or recommend it. I got through mowing the lawn (cleaning up stragglers) and there's still some green present. Glyphosate would absolutely smoke my lawn. On an unrelated note, I spoke to the guys at Jerry Pate and they will work on John Deere mowers. If you need parts or services, give Joey a call and he'll be able to help you out. I'll email you his phone number. Appreciate your help. 😎👍

Ehhhh.I dunno Alan. A neighbor of mine sprayed roundup on winter weeds and ended up with patches in his lawn for most of the following season. I've heard that if you just "dust" the poa with roundup, it can be effective with less chance of hurting the Bermuda. It's something that likely takes experience to pull off successfully though. Do you tend to dilute the rate when using roundup?

Good video! I am coming to bermuda yard care late having just moved to the SE from the MW. I've just last week finally identified the problem in my yard as poa ... I have the sprayer, I have the Image, and I have the dye. But, what I don't have is the dormant bermuda ... the yard is starting to green up. Is Image still safe to use on non-dormant bermuda? Or should I wait until next February or so?

Hi Kevin, Instead of Image, I would use Certainty paired with surfactant. It will do a better job against the poa annua than Image will. You can spray them now. Why not Glyphos - your well dormant?

Hi Rey Del Los Santos. Some of the Bermuda in my area hasn't gone completely dormant. If you spray glyphosate without it being 100% dormant there's a risk of damaging the grass which will cause dead spots when spring time rolls around. I have a neighbor that sprayed glyphosate on their Bermuda lawn 2 during the winter to spot treat weeds and ended up killing parts of their lawn. This is why I don't recommend it. What time of year do you spray for poa annua?
@RonHenry
@RonHenry 2 жыл бұрын
Hi TACPShep. Ideally you'd want to avoid poa in the first place using pre-emergent in the fall. If you already have it in your lawn, you can either wait until it gets hotter and dies off, or use a product like Image, Simazine or Certainty to get rid of it. Image is the cheapest of the 3 options with Certainty working the fastest. ron-henry.com/certainty You'll need a backpack sprayer and to use a non-ionic surfactant with it for best results. ron-henry.com/surfactant Hope this helps. 😎

My Bermuda is already about 80%-90% greened up in Middle, TN and I have patches of Poa Annua. Temperatures are in the mid 70's to low 80's now. Would this still be good to use for spot treating the Poa Annua areas?

Hi Austin. If you're looking to spot spray Poa in your warm season this time of year use this: golfcourselawn.store/products/certainty-herbicide-1-25-oz-sedge-and-poa-annua-control Pair it with surfactant for best results: golfcourselawn.store/products/hi-yield-spreader-sticker-non-ionic-surfactant-16-oz

Unfrtunately Do My Own says that the product is not to be used on cool season grass :(
@RonHenry

Image is definitely not for cool season lawns Freddy D. It would kill or at a minimum seriously injure most cool season grass types. That's why it's effective against poa annua (annual bluegrass).

Good Morning. I sprayed my Poa with the Image, however since there is new sod surrounding all of this, I had to water daily for the sod. I ended up spraying the poa every single day. It is now golden yellow and appears to be dying. I did this every day for about 4 or 5 days in a row. Probably will continue to hit it sporadically.

Nice Richard. I've not heard of watering more to accelerate how quickly the product works but it sounds like it's dying off faster for you.

If fully dormant I agree Fred. I've seen a case where the Bermuda appeared to be dormant and in the spring there were dead areas in the lawn. Have to be careful with roundup.
