For this I actually came up with a semi solution! I typically keep my sketch layer on low opacity and color over it in a separate folder until whatever I'm drawing is completely rendered. This way, I'm able to trick myself into not noticing how weird the lineart looks, and when I'm done, the lineart blends in with the coloring so that I don't have the, "ah yes, I've created a trash" effect. Of course, style and other factors come into play, but I find this method helps me the most other than throwing lineart out of the picture completely lol

amateur artist here- what's the difference between line-art and digital painting? ngl i thought they were the same thing.
@user-mr9oq4kd6z2 жыл бұрын
@@Z0Z33KY Okay so I can explain it through the digital medium. Lineart is when you sketch your drawing then make a cleaner version of it by outlining all the parts of the drawing then erasing the sketchy parts and leaving the solid lines. Since this takes too much of a tedious time to do though, I usually prefer to do just digital painting, which is when you draw the sketch but then, instead of outlining the drawing, you lower the opacity of the sketch layer then just paint over it with the paintbrush tool.
@joajelkal2 жыл бұрын
@@user-mr9oq4kd6z idk why but, lineart seems to be so much easier in traditional art for some reason, i just think its just the phisicality of the medium. What do you think?
@user-mr9oq4kd6z2 жыл бұрын
@@joajelkal I disagree, I think it's even more harder when it's done with pen and paper. At least on digital art you have many tools you can use to edit and fix the line art.
@theseangle2 жыл бұрын
@@user-mr9oq4kd6z imo when you use for example a marker to lineart your sketch irl, even though you have only one chance, it's much easier to have near perfect lines. Maybe it's the texture of the paper and the feeling of friction that you don't have with a graphic tablet?

@syares64702 жыл бұрын
It's a learning curve, something that helped me immensely when I first switched from traditional to digital was drawing out a sketch on paper, taking a picture of it and sketching over it digitally. Over time I stopped drawing over the sketch and would just have my drawing pad open on the side and would practice bringing the image on paper onto the digital canvas. I found it works best with just sketches rather than finalized traditional pieces, otherwise I would get frustrated trying to do things like colors and lineart too early rather than focus on getting used to the new environment and how to draw.

For everyone who uses procreate and struggles with getting clean strokes, I’ve got you. Choose your selected brush (monoline for example if you’ve got a crisp, clean art style that requires smooth lines) and then go to the adjustments on it. Select the “streamline” option and put it up to its maximum setting, and trust me, it will be like opening the door to narnia for the first time.
@rainpooper70883 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t just work for line art too. My sketches have also improved since I‘ve started using streamline because I don’t use a million strokes for one line anymore. This way, I can actually tell which lines to follow for the line art and end up with much more readable art. Use streamline, people. It’s not cheating.

@TheSevenSouls it depends on if you actually post traced art. I think tracing is pretty good if you want to change up your art style due to inspiration taken from another person’s art, or if you just want to improve your anatomy in general. But of course people can’t lean on tracing for everything, and it’s especially bad if they post traced art.
@junoismad3 жыл бұрын
@TheSevenSouls I might just be tired but when did they write about tracing art?
@mahougesu1703 жыл бұрын
@@xxxmaysilssss690 True, although I would say posting art where you've traced over your own assets isn't bad. I think for ppl who do that there usually eventually comes a point where they feel a bit restricted and want to "take the training wheels off" so to speak (unless they're absolutely amazing with 3D models but not as great with line art) but either way I wouldn't say it's strictly bad. If you can find a way of making art easier for yourself that doesn't infringe on other's copyright, you do you.
