Brilliant tutorials. I've been using JabRef for 10+ years and it served me well when I only needed it to organize my documents, even though everything else had to be done manually (importing citation files, exporting citations for Word which didn't work on Mac, opening the files in external pdf readers for digital highlighting and annotations, etc). Now I'm studying for a Master's Degree, writing various papers and using different citation systems, and using different devices and OS's for researching, so I was in dire need of a modern solution. A colleague suggested Mendeley and after hearing his comments and listening to your tutorials, I have gladly decided to leave good old JabRef behind and embrace the future. Thank you so much for this tutorial!

Hello Dr Copeland, After watching 5 hours of You Tube comparing EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley, I have decided to get Mendeley because your presentation is more comprehensive than what I have watched so far and makes me conclude that Mendeley is the right tool for me. I was nearly buying EndNote because I was told it's the best. I think Mendeley is more than adequate. Many of those tutorials I have been watching since yesterday to compare the three software do not start with the most important point (even other presentations on Mendeley) but your three part series addressed all issues in the correct level of importance. Thank you.

I love Mendeley. I was wondering when will "dark-mode" be release to a Mendeley update? I prefer to work on "dark-mode" since I have a lot of sensitivity to light. So this is great software, but if a "dark-mode" feature were added, it would be great!

Thanks, Dr Copeland, just the inclusion of automatic et al sold me on Mendeley. The comments/notes are also great. I've been using et al since I started postgrad and had to stop due to too many formatting issues. I had resigned to doing manual citation for my dissertation, this is a great find, I was dreading the lit review.

Someone in an academic setting recommended Mendeley to me & I've enjoyed your tutorial. Question: Would Mendeley be useful for writers of historical fiction? Easily citing references (a fiction publisher will want you to be able to back up your facts in the novel) is apparent with Mendeley, but often fiction writers are compiling notes, websites, etc. It's not just journal articles they are getting info from. Thoughts? And if I could add to that--what would be the advantages of Mendeley over, say, Google drive? I did see on another video that there is a tag feature available on Mendeley which sounds like it would be greatly beneficial, & I don't think you have this option with Google drive. As a fiction writer I amass a lot of research & am trying to find the best way to organize it.

This is great! (one mistake, though: with the Ross and Smith citation, you have "& others" instead of "et al."--or did you leave it that way because this is a basic-level introduction to Mendeley/citation?)

@DrChrisCopeland4 жыл бұрын
Dolfocar Ali IEEE still uses the references at the end of the final document (double check me on this). You would simply copy and paste your text from one word document to another and then you would have a final references page. Of course, verify with your thesis advisor on the process they want you to follow

My articles are at my discretion, so I’m happy to share them, most researchers have no issue sharing their work. Just sending out the articles does violate the journals copyright if I am not an author. What I can do is send you a bibliography and you can find the articles or contact the authors.

@namesareallusedup4 жыл бұрын
@@DrChrisCopeland IEEE
@DrChrisCopeland4 жыл бұрын
@@namesareallusedup IEEE formats a number for the order of the citation. So the first citation is #1, the second is #2 and so on. If you add or remove a citation in Word and "refresh bibliography" in word, Mendeley will re-count the number of citations and re-order them. I do this all the time. Just remember to remove the old citation and use "insert citation to make sure you keep the form fields correctly formed in the Word document.

@@dimitra908 I do not know of anything in Word that will do that by default. Those types of features are usually found in hypertext (HTML) or PDF, but are usually manually created.
