I still watch Open All hours before I go to bed, It's simply a classic. Something really nice about this sitcom, it relaxes me so much. Makes me laugh and is the best antidepressant ever. Sometimes you need to laugh when life becomes so stressful. God bless Ronnie and his crew.

I don't think there is a word that could be used that would do Ronnie barker justice , for his comedy genius, a word you could use, but it would still fall short , for his immense contribution to British comedy cannot be overestimated.

What’s sad is we never heard a peep of this in the USA. Ronnie Barker was a comic legend. Porridge, Open All Hours, and of course The Two Ronnie’s. British comedy just can’t be beat 👍
@No1sonuk3 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend "Still open all hours". It's a follow-on made in recent years with David Jason reprising his role as Granville, who now owns the shop, and a couple of the other original actors in the same roles, with some younger supporting cast.

Ah yes The Two Ronnies was without doubt one of the best of British comedies. They both gave us all many many laughs which will always be a part of us. After watching the Bafta Awards after many years of not seeing him or knowing much about his retirement, he certainly looks well enough and has lost a bit of weight, but now know he was having heart problems... such a shame he couldn't have had heart surgery as 76 years old is too young to die. Now Ronnie Corbett has gone leaving us with such an empty feeling, I miss them both so much.

I can't say Ronnie Barker was the best, that would seem like Ronnie Corbett was not considerred. The two together wre without doubt, the best there ever was. Individually they were unbeatable. @No1sonuk3 жыл бұрын
I call BS. HMP Slade was entirely fictional. The exterior shots of the prison were all different places, some weren't even prisons, and the main interiors were filmed in a studio or in a prison that had closed.

One of the saddest thing when a big celebrity dies, is that they want an instant feedback from their dearest friends and colleagues. They don't even get a day or a few hours to grieve privately, instead they want their opinion RIGHT AWAY! I understand why, they want to include it in the report to the world, but my goodness, it seems so inhumane. I feel for David Jason and Ronnie Corbett.
@ppotter3 жыл бұрын
Very true.

@@ppotter It's awful isn't it, yet they do such a great job. I remember hearing a Nicholas Lyndhurst interview where he said how difficult it was for him to talk to the press the day he heard John Sullivan passed away. They all thought he would recover from his illness. I didn't even think about the pressure they're under until I heard that. He spoke to the press as he understood he was required to, but it was beyond difficult. I wish stars could just not be quizzed until they are ready to make a statement in their own time, for the press to be a little kinder. Thanks for the heart ♥
@ppotter3 жыл бұрын
@@angelkotilainen Not sure if uploaded it but I have a segment with little Ronnie Corbett sitting talking in a garden talking it ITV or something, and it seemed so wrong to be demanding instant eulogies from a great friend. I remember flipping from channel to channel recording all this and thinking that it was all wrong. I haven't bothered since.

I love the Gerald Wiley story - they received scripts from “Gerald Wiley” and Barker asked Corbett what he thought, Corbett said how much does he want? Barker said oh, £100 if we use them. OK said Corbett, pay him £100 each for them. It was some years after that Ronnie B told Ronnie C that, in fact, it was he who was Gerald Wiley!

No one had ever guessed it was he. All in his book. That was Ronnie . The gifted man who wanted ' who wanted no praise.

From memory I think Ronnie B only revealed to Ronnie C and the Two Ronnies crew that he was Gerald Wiley on the same xmas 1987 night out in (I think) a curry house in which he also revealed to them that the Two Ronnies special they had just filmed would be the last as he was retiring from showbusiness.

Most of his ilk have left us and with their passing and the memories of them receed so departs the knowledge of what it was and is to be British. This would all mean nothing to so many now living in the UK which is means a loss of culture, continuity and belonging.

I can't say what rabbit hole brought me here, but I am so glad it did. If you think about it, even as recently as this was, that beautiful, innocent and wonderful window of time pre internet, and late post war..........if you think about it, that was a small window. we had, those of us who lived in it. Post WW2 boomer kids, we started out with chalk, chalkboards and Plasticine - and ended up, before we knew it, with phones we wear on our wrists that can count how many breaths we have taken that day. I prefer the dusty old comfort of choosing between watching 'Pot Black' or 'The Likely Lads" versus choosing between all the mind numbing content from channel 001 to channel 1000 that we have access to nowdays.
