Ronnie McDowell - TUPELO'S TOO FAR
(Words & music by Campbell - Campbell)
I can see Saltillo Street
And the house where I was born
I can hear Gospel songs
From the church on Sunday morn
Saturday nights around the radio
Life was simple then
but this road I'm on
Won't take me there
You can't go back again
I wish I could take Route 78
And be there in no time
And rest beneath the sweet gum trees
Leave all my cares behind
But Tupelo's too far
I never dreamed I would be
A king, much less a star
And I never knew
That what I loved
Could also break my heart
I always thought if I just sang
Everything would be alright
I don't know
What went wrong
But I'm lonesome tonight...
I wish I could take Route 78....

It's just sad Elvis had it all talent good looks, but he was missing the most important thing, a friend that could help him.

Elvis had plenty of friends, father, girlfriends and a wife that loved him and tried to help him but he did not want help. A person has to want and accept help before they can be helped. Elvis refused to believe he had a problem as long as doctors continued to write prescriptions for him. He wasn't a druggie because he was taking medication.

@@sissy20088 Everyone that lived with him was afraid of losing their hang around statics, so the world lost the Greatest singer that ever lived, just sad seems more could have been done.

@@user-ff8ju1ee9b To a certain extent you are right. They didn't want to loose their jobs. That is what happened to Red &sonny West. One of his girlfriends Sheila Ryan said she stopped seeing him because she didn't want to see him die. Linda Thompson and Dr. Nichopoulos would empty capsules and replace it with sugar but Elvis knew the effects each medication, so when he didn't feel that effect he knew. He just threw them away and got the real thing. Like it or not.........Elvis killed Elvis.

@@elvisAronPresleybyRusty Thank you for Dr. Nicks medical records. I did read a copy of Elvis autopsy by one of the attending physicians. He said how long and thick his colon was. He also said at one time he was holding Elvis larynx in his hand and realizing no one would ever hear his beautiful voice again. Yes he was caught in a trap of the life he made and the responsibilities that went with it. It cost so much to maintain Graceland and there wasn't enough money to keep it going much longer. Pricilla was told to sell it. All the people that hate her so much don't think about what all she has done to not only keep his memory alive but do it in away that it didn't turn into a circus side show. I remember Linda talking about emptying out the capsules and replacing the contents with sugar. Problem was he knew the effect the capsule had and when he didn't get that effect he knew they had tampered with. When he did the round the world special he cut out the drugs, exercised and dieted. The day after Linda found him with his face in a bowl of soup. He was back on the drugs again. I know it's hard to live with pain. I am 77 and I see my pain dr. twice a month. When I forget to take a pill my body reminds me. It's too bad he didn't have anyone who could have control him. All he had was a greedy manager that couldn't understand his need for a challenge. He made him rich but he couldn't understand Elvis needed more than money. One of the biggest mistakes he made was to talk Elvis out of making A Star Is Born.

What a touching tribute to a man who gave us his sweet singing voice. His charisma was incomparable. There will NEVER be another Elvis Presley. He was one of a kind and a legend in his own time. Elvis never realized what an impact he would create. The impression he left behind is so profound. The ripples of his magnificence and superb talent will be heard for all eternity. His existence has an left an impression too deep to ever forget the greatness of a small country boy who was born to be THE KING OF ROCK N' ROLL!!

Lucinda Baker .. Yes I agree because you can always see the sadness in his eyes especially in these photos and videos when he's left a show. We know he's very tired but it's more than that. I think he's sad and reminiscing of his past, home, mother and life. I think despite all of the extreme fame and money Elvis was never truly happy in life. Sad to think or know this. I pray he's happy with God in Heaven now.

I think it's the fans made him so happy, when the show was over, i think he was lonely once again, i just wish he could have found happiness and could sit back for a few years and just enjoy family kids, get the work load off his back, love the song ronnie, that was my oldest brother's name, he passed away in 06 from a broken heart, when his wife died 3 months earlier of a hart attack, i never got to say by to him, 🙏 RIP Elvis and my brother ronnie 😥

I really do understand your heartbreak 💔, I have had a lot of sadness in my family too (have lost all my grandparents, my mom, two dads, and two close lifetime friends) ... the older I get, the more I seem to lose ... one of the sad life results of aging ... bless you 🙏, and rip to all those who have gone before us to the promised land, including Elvis ... 💜💜⚡💜💜

A beautiful song that expresses interesting thoughts behind the lines. Success is a great thing, but the road leading to it is time-consuming and tiring. Of course, no one knows this in advance, they only understand afterwards. And Elvis was flown forward by his talent and wonderful personality. Thanks✌👑👼❤🌹

This is one of the best tribute songs to Elvis Presley. Elvis only lived 42 years, but what a life it was. Just think of how the world was from 1935-1977. When you look at it that way, what Elvis achieved is absolutely astonishing. The world he came into in 1935 was far different from the world he left in 1977, but boy, he left his mark. Elvis was before my time, but we were sure lucky to have him for the 23 years we had him performing for us (1954-1977). Elvis had so much more to do and is still remembered today. So Elvis, in response to your question as to whether people will remember you, the answer is: hell yeah. We still do and always will. RIP, Elvis. You will never be forgotten and your legacy will live on forever. Your music is immortal.
