I went to an exhibition in Ireland around 10 years ago when Jimmy played Ronnie. They played each other first and then did a bid from the crowd to see who would get to play with them in doubles. Someone paid 350 to play with Jimmy and then another person paid 450 to play with Ronnie. Jimmy's partner broke off and Ronnie came in and made a 147. They felt bad, so they had another frame. Ronnie's partner broke off and then Jimmy came in and made a 147. I never seen anything like it before! I wonder would they remember if someone said it to them now!

It is like playing music. The music of the spheres, perhaps. I know I'm a two bit pianist. But I always do my best. The music is its own world, teaching us to be there and to be aware. And this is like the zen of Ronnie O'Sullivan. In that music lets you in, if you let yourself out... It is a world of mental work, of guiding your own mind into a state of flow and harmony, yet reflected in the limelight. The magic of the moment. Snooker is the only sport that I care about. Frankly, I see a lot of divergence between what he always says, and his career. You don't win 6 world championships, and win 37 majors, if you're not a competitive player. I think what he never really wanted to accept is the pressure which comes with the competition. He has detected that as a ultimately annoying and hindering part of competitive sport which he isn't willing to adopt anymore. Which says a lot about his character. And, it showed when he conceded the match against Stephen Hendy in 2006 (I think), and in the many occasions where his disinclination made him lose. TBH, I'm surprised that he won so many tournaments, considering his character. But then, it confirms what I just said. At his core, he is a competitive player. It's just that he "can't stand the heat" sometimes, if he's not in the right mood.

1:18 If you are below your expected standard, it can be the most frustrating thing in your life. You have to go back to basics, and rebuild your game from the foundations up. After years of complacency, even your stance may be wrong. Make sure both of your arms are supple, before you even get down to work. Brace yourself comfortably, so that your core provides a sustainable, solid platform. Make sure your head is dead level, maybe even by using a mirror on the practice table. Then put your wig on.

Ronnie is not going to retire. Why should he? Hes still got it. Whats the secret to his longevity? Well one reason is he keeps himself fit. Goes out every day rain or shine puts in the miles . Good for the mind and soul. Keeps his resting HR down (less than 50 bpm for sure). As you get oder the weight and the HR creep up and will make you error prone.

The global snooker scene without Ronnie in any event is boring and I say this for entertainment reasons, let me give you an example which is relevant to what I am trying to articulate,Rafa Nadal is an icon and legend in the game of tennis and as example is on how he plays his game at a level beyond anything we could ever imagine because every play is based on sheer detemination and sheer will to win.Ronnie has a game where we see outrageous shots which only he can outwit and out perform any opponent. The talent Ronnie possesses in my humble opinion and the way he conducts himself in game play is exhilirating and exciting to watch as opposed to a Henry or even Selby...very boring to watch.

Ronnie has always talked about quitting. He says he just plays for fun. This is him just being defensive. No one likes to say that they are trying hard and losing so they defend themselves by playing down the importance of whatever they're trying to achieve.
