Excellent video..very clear and concise. I have used biscuit joiners, the Mafell Duo doweller and both Festool domino machines. They all have their pros and cons...biscuits are great as an alignment tool particularly on sheet goods, and very affordable for both machine and consumables. The Mafell creates quick and strong joints with cheap consumables (but the machine itself is expensive). The festools are a clear winner for me in terms of versatility, speed and ease of use, and the strength of the joint produced. They are definitely very expensive machines, but if you run a small shop, they can make a massive difference to your productivity and quality of work. I also find that i make fewer errors, and waste less timber, as all components to be joined are cut to ther exact finished sizes.....no need to make allowances for tenon length or haunches etc.

Thanks Ron for putting this video together & pointing out a few of the distinguishing features between the 500 & the 700. Very helpful as I plan my domino purchase (alas I only have the budget for one, not both). This vid was very informative & helpful in making my decision.

Ron - why is it that with all of your great video's, most educational and some informational, that you only have 138k subscribers? Your content is always spot on, not salesy at all either. Anyway, I always look forward to seeing what new and/or interesting things you are doing and have come up with. That, and you are from the Great NW :)

Not the quantity but the quality. I believe there are some improvements to be made to the Paulk system, although I can’t for the life of me think of one of them. Anyway this guy is beyond his time and people still don’t understand that the time we have is all we get. So that one year investment for the trailer, tools, jigs and fixtures can be reclaimed, will bring opportunities and most important of all it allows me a chance to live by example so this next generation will at least have a chance at using their problem solving skills with whatever might be available to them at that time.

well done Ron but I would love to see you post a video showing how you set up the 700 for shelves or one 2x10 edge grain joining another 2x10 on the face grain somewhere around the center of the board. I’ll make a mark as to where I want the joint but when setting the fence at zero to make the mortise on the face grain seems I never get the two to fit exactly where I want, could you demonstrate that setup? thank you

Ron- Nice job, the overhead camera is a big help. Most of us woodworkers are balding so we can't use overheads.

great explanination. Can you do a video showing alignment of offset dominos? for example. I have 1"x3" stretcher going into a 3x3 leg, but I want the stretcher offset by 3/4" from the face of the table leg? Is there an easy way to have repeatable steps?

Two questions: 1) do you have the TSO Bigfoot for the Dominos 500 & 700? 2) If someone had a gun to your head and you could only own one machine for the rest of your life (as sad as that would be), would you choose the 500 or the 700 with the Seneca adaptor (to allow it to do all Domino 500 sizes)?

Great video. Would you say an 8mm domino would be an acceptable size for 3/4" material or do you think it's a bit too thick? I see a lot of guys use 5 or 6mm tenons with the df500 but you can only go down to an 8mm bit on the df700. Thanks.

1/3 of 3/4” is about 6mm. That has been my go-to size for joining 3/4” materials. DF500 would be the best fit for this case.

There are also adapters for the df700 that will allow you to use all the router bits from the df500 (4mm-10mm)

I can see the utility of taking the tool to the work but over $1500 is a hard pill to swallow. There are other options in stationary tools which are not much more money and they do a lot more than mortise and tenon joints. This is really a $500 machine at best; when the patents expire I may consider one.
