The understanding of added side spin is so important for your game when pocketing balls on the table. I tell every beginner that spin can both be your worst "enemy" and a great "friend" to have in your game. Thanks for yet another good video, Ron. Keep it up and stay safe. Cheers from Denmark.

Thank you Chris (my son’s name) and welcome all the way from Denmark 🇩🇰 Yes, mastering spin is so important. Once a player is able to consistency match up aim with speed and spin, that’s when that player has reached a higher level of play 👍🏻😊 Take care and thanks again ❤️🎱

I started adding spin incrementally, gradually adding more. I missed some shots early in the process, but it has paid off. Hello friend!
@ronthepoolstudentАй бұрын
@@zekragash4294 Yes Ze, I too love spin shots. I missed a lot at first as I worked at finding it’s maximum limits, but In time, you develop a feel for each aim point per the speed and spin applied to the shot. Imo; In order to play at a high level, we must know the outer limits of spin and play within those 👍🏻
@bell989Ай бұрын
Pool balls you selected are excellent for showing spin. The chalk marks showed what seemed to be little but was still very effective spin. With the slower speed allowed by KZbin, I could tell the spot where the cue ball hit object ball: Left/Outside E. on object ball cut to the right banked ball more to the right than Right/Inside E spin (now, if this was kicking? Think opposite). Or another way of putting it, object ball cut to right and with left/Outside E. caused object ball to come off cushions wider than had the cue ball been hit with left/Outside E.
@ronthepoolstudentАй бұрын
Thank you Paul, I appreciate the feedback. When compiling the video clips for this tutorial, the inside right spin shots, had to be aimed straight at the center diamond. From there, cue ball squirt took over, sending the object ball to the white arrow. This took some time to make that happen as the inside spin is less controllable than the outside. Also, the outside was WAY more consistent on pocketing the shot which is an indication of more controlled squirt. Thanks again 👍🏻

There is also angle change depending on how hard the ball hits the cushion. Harder hits rebound at less of an angle, Softer hits rebound at more of an angle.

Spin transfers to the other ball and reverses it's direction. More spin, more angle movement. There is also Throw caused by the Cue tip hitting the side of the cue ball.
@ronthepoolstudentАй бұрын
@@mickturner957 Yes, this is why I made sure to duplicate the shot (paper reinforcements) and to have both shots hit the same spot on the first cushion. It was a very controlled experiment.

Off center cue ball strike causes offset path... Known as "squirt" IIRC. Bane of my existence at times.
@ronthepoolstudentАй бұрын
@@cosmicraysshotsintothelight Correct, the important aspect of shot comparison videos, is to set a strike point on the cushion, then duplicate each shot by making the object ball hit this spot. (apples to apples)
@cosmicraysshotsintothelightАй бұрын
@@ronthepoolstudent Yes, you illustrated the difference in object ball roll after cue ball contact. "Squirt" (offset jar) and CIT (cut induced throw) are factors. To hit that same spot, you had to compensate due to the opposite spin than the previous spin shot. But to make the shot with the inside spin, which you demonstrated a fail aspect with that rail contact point being the defining element while switching up the spin. So the rail contact to actually make the shot with that opposite spin is a different spot, which is not what you were trying to show. (I am not trying to say anything about your video was wrong. I am just describing it from my POV.) You proved that by showing the fail when striking the same spot. Which would also be a way to illustrate the fact that applied spin in a bank shot alters the path from the rail release. You showed "complimentary spin", and "opposing spin" (my terms)from a bank shot POV. Both are needed for specific circumstances, like subsequent cue ball roll and positioning. I never made a video, but I show folks a shot with the cue ball and object ball and my stick, all lines up parallel to the long rail about one and half spots over. So cue ball at the head line, object ball about 18 inches forward of that. Perfectly straight stick. I stroke with English and shoot the ball straight at the rail, but the spin makes the bank shot. I do it to illustrate spin transfer. But you did it a bit more clinically here.

With no imparted spin, when a ball strikes the rail, no spin gets applied by the rail nose. AS an angle is used as the approach and still with no side spin on the balls rolling approach, the moment the ball strikes the rail, the "bite" or friction of the rail nose imparts a spin on the ball during that "compression/rebound event".. This spin increases as the angle is increased, to a point at which the ball begins to slip as it rebounds. So, when I bank a ball into the rail, I apply the spin before it arrives and it corrects the bounce angle for me. But it also allowed me to examine "throw", where additional added spin and rail nose impact pressure can be used to alter the angle the ball leaves the rail from the angle normally associated with the event and allows for pocketing a bank not appearing to be possible.

@@ronthepoolstudent I do not know if you kill posts that put up links to others' content, so I didn't, but I have over a thousand bank shot videos posted. Most are just standard things, but many show the use of effects that should be outlined and an instructional segment be reproduced. My descriptions mean nothing, and I have no high speed camera to look at my strike points, but I have done banks that require a certain finesse that we should actually describe in physics terms so others can properly contemplate what took place or what they are about to try to implement.

Have you played with different distances between the object ball and the cue ball? It is amazing how much more transfer happens when they are close and the cue ball has no cloth friction to pick up forward roll.

My shooting buddy has gotten really good at these zippers (we call them), leaving me behind. He uses a center ball strike. Perhaps I can catch up by incorporating spin. Not too worry, I have advantages elsewhere: OB throw, and swerves.

@@zekragash4294 Thank you Ze. When I shot my clips for this tutorial, I also shot center cue ball. I ended up not using those clips as it would have confused the viewer. What I found however, the center ball had way less margin for error than when applying outside spin to the cue ball. Another thing you’ll need to factor in, is if balls are dirty vs clean. There’s much more spin transfer with dirty billiard balls. Hope that helps 👍🏻

Good Vid. How about shooting the object ball with the stick, removing the cue ball, at the same angle the cue ball would hit the object ball. No English on object ball with tip.... just thinking
@ronthepoolstudentАй бұрын
@@dacjeep Thank you DJ. Actually, the point of what’s shown here, is how spin transfers from the cue ball to the object ball and how that transferred spin changes the outbound angle off the first cushion. I did not make "instructional" videos, however, I made demonstration videos that some of which might match up with what you are after. I shoot shots and banks at a pace most consider to be a bit harder than usual orthodoxy calls normal. With banking at a pace above normal, little particulars come into play, such as the exact rail nose height. I can fire missiles all day long on an old Valley table, but on some Diamond tables set up with too high a rail nose, my hard banks get "pinched off" a lot more often. On a valley, I can loft a bank half the length of the table. Yes, I said loft. On a diamond, the rail hop effects are less and it ties my hilarity down a little bit. Click my name for examples of spin and speed effects. Search up "Fancy Six Tries" where I spent several shots on a stubborn last ball and got a little squirrely with it.
@scruffyleon7383Ай бұрын
@@cosmicraysshotsintothelight Thanks will check it out. Rail rubber ( material, height, shape) makes each brand of table bank differently. Then add speed, cloth, clean or dirty, side spin, simply adds to complicate thing more. It's a wonder we ever make a bank shot. That's why pros shoot with more speed.
