Thank you so much Oishh 😊 The center overhead camera is something I’ve always wanted to do actually. Your request has made me think more about this. My issue is that I have an overhead table light that is center mounted so it would hinder any camera situation. Hi Ron - when you hit the cueball with inside or outside spin do you still aim for the center if the pocket? How do you compensate for the spin? Especially if you hit the cueball hard? Thxs

Outside spin is aimed as an undercut to account for throw George, while Inside spin shots, are aimed directly at the pocket when hit at medium/slow speed but short of the pocket (as described in the video) when hit at high speeds.

The absolute quickest way to learn throw is to set up a cut shot, marking both cue ball and object ball with paper reinforcements, then experiment by applying different english and speeds until you learn to tie the two together. Both speed and spin for both inside and outside have to match up in order to be successful. Once you figure out a specific cut angle from let’s say half table, lengthen the shot. You should also change the angle as you master a certain cut and repeat.

Nice one Ron. My hesitation with shooting these shots is that not only is shooting with inside slightly less accurate because of throw and speed, but it’s so much more dependent on table conditions and comfortability, than shooting with outside. There’s more consistency with outside spin, and running spin in general, which is why most pros don’t shoot this way given the opportunity. For you, it might be 30% and you might be comfortable with that on your table, but that number is probably much lower at high levels of play with tight pockets on various table conditions. If they are using inside, it’s usually just a little bit. I think these shots are absolutely ones to practice and get comfortable with though- especially as alternate routes when you need to avoid other balls or play different position. Good stuff! To each his own Brian. I shoot the inside spin shot and the outside spinners a lot and hardly ever miss them. I do practice both a ton however 🤷🏻‍♂️ Love pulling it off the inside spinner against an opponent 😉

Hey Ron yea when playing 9 ball it's very important to know various different ways to place the cue ball for the next shot because there will be times and to know which is the best option and also very important to know multiple different ways to place the cue ball for the next shot because sometimes one way the path might be blocked by an object ball so it's important to know other ways to place the cue ball for the next shot,as always you post such fantastic content, really appreciate it,I always look forward to watching your videos, tc Ron, cheers😊

Thanks Ron, I appreciate the kind words 😊 I’m big into flowing into the shot line and sometimes, inside spin works best and is required. One of the very first things I promised myself to do when I started, was to master inside spin. I have a 740 fargo friend that is known as a player that uses inside english more than most high level Player’s. When we shoot, I’m constantly checking out which english he chooses. It’s amazing how often he applies inside.

I always struggle with making shots with inside spin. I feel like outside spin is easier than inside spin for most people as well. Any theories on why that is?

It’s about understanding how to stroke through the cue ball Nick, as inside english creates more squirt compared to outside english. This being said, outside spin causes throw so that too requires practice. This is needed to understand how to match up spin with speed. Both require experimentation in order to understand how to properly aim.

Lastly, inside spin has a reverse gearing affect. The cue ball actually grabs the object ball at point of contact. This in turn, throws the object ball short of the intended shot line. This happens more so when the balls are dirty. This is due to more friction during point of contact. Hope that makes sense.

The first shot you demonstrated can work even better if you jump the CB a bit, into the OB, at least if you're Mike Massey, ha ha! Seriously, that technique appears in a DVD he put out. As always, takes practice, because the aim changes somewhat.

I practice this shot when I’m at a new table to find the max cut angle where the cue ball will no longer grab the cushion. Finding max angle tells me where my limitations are when similar shots come up during the game. ❤️inside english!!! Thanks Garry 👋

Thank you Tony and yes, there is a degree of ingraining the loose grip into our muscle memory. I found it to happen quickly however, as success drove home that it works. The whole idea is to develop our game so that we can play without thought. Our fundamentals need to be sound and to the stage that we execute without even a single stroke thought other than pocketing the ball at the speed required. Wow, American pool tables are so forgiving. At 1:45 you hit the object ball into the cushion and it still went in the pocket That wouldn't happen on a UK pool table which all have much tighter and smaller pockets. I noticed it hit the sharp angled pocked and went in. On a UK pool table the pockets are rounded so that the ball wouldn't have gone in and would have sat in the jaws. I don't play American pool but love your channel - great tips!

The new Simonis 860 (shown here) allows the object ball to slide off the cushion and into the pocket. Once the cloth wears in however, balls will hang up when hitting the cushion on the way in. This table has a 155° cut angle with two inch deep shelves. These angles, in conjunction with shelf depth, make the Olhausen subject to rattling balls in corner pockets if balls are not pocketed cleanly at speed. Typical with a 155° cut angle… Thanks Phil 👍🏻

And UK pool tables have giant side pockets. And really, with the smaller ball size, the relative pocket size isn't really that much of a difference, the difference is in the pocket facing shape, which makes rail shots a bit harder on the english pool or snooker tables, but makes side pocket shots at angle much more difficult on a USA pool table vs english.

@@AdamMarr American Pool is very different for sure Adam. We are able to manufacture angles (at times) by cheating the pockets. This of course requires precise accuracy but many European players, don’t give credit where credit is due. The two games are worlds apart figuratively and literally.

@@ronthepoolstudent if you are decent at woodworking you can fix that 155deg (you sure its 155 and not more like 145-147?) issue Ron ;). My Oly is now 140 deg pocket angle with 4" pockets (you could probably do this with 4.25 but I used 3/8 shims instead of 1/4). Took about a full day of work do to, but made my olhausen about 1000% more enjoyable to play on.
