The came from the New Orleans area. They were Palmer's selected band to back him on this particular recording.

I always wonder, if he were still with us, what Robert Pamler would think of the appreciation that his now nearly 40 year old songs have with people. I know that for some he kind of "sold out" with his more rocky, pop orientated songs. But for me, Robert was man of many flavours and I don't think he ever really gave up his blues roots. You can tell, from his interviews, that that's where his passion lay. Evident, I think, in some of his later stuff. His Marvin Gaye covers are a good example. I'm only 26, but I remember reading in a newspaper, I was on holiday with my father at the time, that he had died and telling my dad. I felt gutted, and so did he. I think Robert was one of those talents you only got once in generation. He's sadly missed, but I'm glad his back catalogue is there for everyone to enjoy. I know I do.

Can't go wrong with that rhythm section - probably the best ever, and Lowell George.

Mainly due to the fact the R R hof is a joke based on commercialism. Little Feat should've been there years ago. Wonder what rap crap they'll induct next? Rock on.

I lived in NOLA when this came out. Was a Meters fan mostly back then so when came on the local radio I snapped it up as soon as I could get to the store. Don't forget Allen Toussaint who called the shots on this! Still have the LP and I really appreciate you putting this on the tube. Sneaking Through The Alley With Sally was written by Allen Toussaint, by the way.

This medley is my favorite of Robert Palmer's. Every Kind of People, "Mercy, Mercy Me" and "Can We Still Be Friends?". I really enjoy Palmer's versions of "Every Kind of People" and "Can We Still Be Friends?". Do I like Marvin Gaye's and Todd Rundgren's more? Yes. Love 'em. Palmer has a different voice and brings it's own funkiness. Glad I caught him twice. Also Steve Goodman. See live music folks. It's one of the best things in life!

This is medley is a classic, the Meters and Lowell George make this incredibly special. The Meters virtually invented FUNK. I don't care what anyone cares to say about that, but funk came from New Orleans along with Jazz.
