So simple yet so effective. Brilliant. The only thing that would improve the polishing cups is treating the wood with epoxy so it doesn't absorb too much water and warp or get the cups 3D printed.

You have to be careful with 3d prints gettin water exposure too, they also absorb water and expand

I do this too. I use smaller diamond pads then cut a small triangle out of it then fold it into a cone.

If you cut the wood cups slightly larger you could have added Velcro to it’s inside then you could easily replace the Dimond paper as required

Amazing results. Couldn`t you use 2 drills though, rather than rotating by hand? Thanks for posting.

It's mostly the edges of the cup that do the work more than the bottom, at least if playing with the art of dorodango is indicative of anything. Could have gone over the top with two more cups that have only felt put on and loaded them with different levels of cutting/polishing compound. But maybe that's for another time?
@schabanow4 ай бұрын
To make a ball out from everything you want you should use one rotary grinding ring (crown drill for instance) and rotate a subject being machined - simultaneously. Both axes of rotation (tool and stone) should be perpendicular to each other. So there's no need to make a spherical cup - just rotary ring upon rotary stone at 90 deg. That's it...

I was thinking you were going to glue/epoxy the sandpaper in the cups. I guess the way you’ve done it lets it break loose once it’s used (if the string isn’t worn down faster than the sandpaper) so you can replace it. But if the string wears too fast, some sort of semi permanent glue might work better and be faster/easier to attach.
