The biggest mistake the writers made on this show was the way they ruined this couple for no reason. Max had the best chemistry with her BY FAR compared to his other love interests. It just made no sense to do that.

This is so ridiculously unrealistic and breaks all sorts of ethics codes and policies - no way the hospital would allow a partner to be in the operating room for procedures like this or to resuscitate their partner. Are there any doctors in the comment section available to break this down for us? Is multi organ surgery the first option in this case? I know I'm missing alot of context as this is a 10-minute clip, but it seems like rushing into very big procedures without considering other options. Is the surgery to remove the clots done laproscopic? Can they suction them out? Can't they inject clots with TPA and just monitor extremely close for anything moving into a "911, cut her open now"? Kinda like the one that moved to the lungs?
@angikarzukhina1252 Жыл бұрын
Ok so nurse here, surgery would be done laparoscopically for the arteries they can reach. I’m not sure why they would automatically do a hysterectomy (maybe they can’t reach the arteries??) The whole reason why they don’t wanna do TPA/other clot busters is because if it doesn’t work, they’ll have to rush her to surgery and cut her open - which is a HUGE risk for her bleeding out considering the admin of TPA.
@zohabaig642611 ай бұрын
Med student here, I've never heard of multi organ surgery for DIC. Normally we'd transfuse platelets if necessary, combined with thrombolytics and supportive care and treating the underlying source. Flushing out the toxin and busting the clots would be the priority
@AngelFace7879 ай бұрын
Nurse here. I think what they were trying to show us here is how deadly DIC is especially when there were so many organs affected. I mean five surgeries plus a hysterectomy is a bit much. However, it was because of who she was. We would have gone to anti-thrombolytics (it was too late for TPA), and platelets as needed. The risk she took with busting the clots is not a risk that we would have taken at a real hospital. Because the risk of a clot breaking loose could cause a catastrophe, like how it went to the lungs and they rushed to get it out by embolectomy, but there were so many that one still got to her brain. That is why Max did not want to do that. Surgery is invasive, but at least it wouldn't have risked Pulmonary embolism, stroke or heart attack. Looking at how bad her legs were, I mean she had DVTs everywhere. You shouldn't even be moving with that many clots.

My mom suffered Thu an entire year of vaginal bleeding years after going Thu menopause. She had finally had enough and went to a Dr to find out what was wrong and she found out she had ovarian cancer that had progressed to stage 4 and the only option she had left was a hysterectomy, so at almost 60 years old she had to get all of her vaginal women organs taken out. At that point in her life she didn't care cuz she had already gone Thu menopause and didn't plan on having any other kids that late in life.

Same here, if I could have a hysterectomy tomorrow, I'd do it. I'm not worried about the scar. But there are risks to consider...
@Bl00Buttons9 ай бұрын
Generally, the risk for heart problems comes from having an oophorectomy, not a hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus, while oophorectomy is removal of one or both ovaries. Ovary removal would mean your body wouldn't be making the estrogen it needs anymore, and you'd need hormone replacement therapy unless you want the risk of serious illness to skyrocket even more.
