Roofing Carpentry - Installing Trusses On A New Build Property!

I’ve been doing traditional roofs for the last 25 years in the Peak park area. But this is the first truss roof I’ve taken on as part a new build project. With the plans they gave me from the truss firm and your experience it was a doddle. Thanks again

How do you set your girder truss to make sure you've marked your hangers in the right place?

I make sure it has equal hang over on each side (end of tail to the brickwork) then I just measure off the last truss that’s on the wall plate! 👌

How many sets of bracings do you put on 7 or 5 and what about straps

Think this roof was about 8 but all depends on the size and the truss type. We normally do 3/4 straps across the ceiling cord then 5 up the roof so 2 a side and 1 at the ridge. Cheers for your comment 💪👌

It’s a crash deck, been on jobs for a good few years now it replaced bean bags to protect you from falls. And it’s so much better because you can actually work off it!

@@sctrader151 it’s supported on plastic posts, if you google crash decking or safety decking it’ll show you how it’s done. It’s a good system tbf

is there a reason you do loads of little bits of 4x1 instead of one long length?

On the diagonals do you mean? The first one down to the wall plate is a full length then I had to cut the joining but as it hit one of the uprights where it overlaps. Hope that answers the questions haha 👌

Think he means the temporary bracing on top it's so u can adjust the trusses back and forth one by one to line them up?

@@bmxerboynathan ahhh yeah! Haha yeah it keeps them all free to move individually

@@ashleydavenport3794 yeah I mean the temporary bracing on top, if you were to just use a long length and tack it you can still take the nail out to adjust the truss if need be. Just saves you cutting up a load at 600, and you've also got another length of 4x1 to use afterwards

When it’s an up and over roof a length works fine but when it has a peak it’s tricky lifting the trusses into the hangers when there’s a 4x1 nailed in .. that’s how I find it mate 👍🏻
