What about dust when driving? Have you ever found the tent interior to be dusty when deployed after driving down dusty roads?

No, the lid closes pretty tightly and has a rubber gasket to keep water and dust out. We never had any trouble with the tent being wet or dusty. We’ve since worn the tent completely out after about 400 nights of use.

How do you lock it onto the car to avoid theft if you stay at a motel on the road, etc

You could run a locking strap around it and lock it to the rack, but TBH because of the size and weight we don’t really worry about theft. We’ve left it at trailheads while backpacking overnight and stayed at motels before without incident. We’re much more worried about theft of other gear (power station, camera equipment, etc) inside the Jeep than the roof tent itself.

Definitely! If we’re both at camp the other person can tuck in the sides to make it faster, but you can 100% close it with one person and it doesn’t actually take that much longer, maybe 30 seconds more.

ʻAʻole pilikia! We purchased directly from Roofnest on their website and had it shipped to Rack N Road. They charged us about $200 to receive and install.

What made you go with that specific Roofnest model?

We chose the clamshell design to make it more aerodynamic when open because we often camp in places that are windy. We notice a big difference in the ‘flappy-ness’ level when it’s aimed into the wind vs. turned around open to the wind. We also liked that you can keep the bedding inside because it means we can roll up and go right to bed, like if we spend the night at a rest area or anything like that. Finally, we didn’t need an XL tent because it’s just the two of us sleeping in it and neither of us is tall. LMK if you have other questions!
