Buttermere is such a magical place. The truck is looking good. You need to get yourself a decent portable BBQ..
@2planks2 жыл бұрын
cheers mate! yeah we had a proper metal fire pit with a grill on that we used to bbq most of last year, but i swapped that old fire pit out for the new foldable one just because the new one packs smaller. didn’t really factor in the loss of a grill! will probably invest in a cadac at some point in the future.

@@2planks Yes i've heard the cadac range is good. I just taxed my D3 and feeling the pain at the moment...

Hi. Just subscribed to your channel. I also have a kitted out disco 3 with roof tent and awning. I also do a lot of traveling and off road shows with my 7 yr son but I’m not into posting my trips. More than happy to watch others though. Nice vid & looking forward to seeing more. 👍

thank you for watching! appreciate posting your private life online for all to see isn’t for everyone! especially when kids are involved too. i mostly just enjoy the creative process of making them, in fact, i try my best not to be in them myself at all. or at the very least, i try to make the scenes about the scenery, car and environment, rather than me!

Do you always light the bbq with the cardboard box still under it or just for KZbin videos 🔥😆

😂 i think opening the wine before lighting the bbq might have influenced that choice! oops! 😬

So I am looking at roof tents and I am trying to workout if the soft shell type are too much of a faff compared to the hard shell or triangular type that TentBox do... There is a big different on price between those styles and Gritt do a soft shell like the tentbox lite but a slightly better spec but there aren't any video's or reviews on them. How do you find setup and rig down of the one you have and given your experiences would you trade-up?

if i’m honest, yeah i’d go for the hardshell pop up next time. a few reasons - 1. set up time is a lot less on a hardshell. although it only takes 10-15mins to take off the cover and fold out, on multi day trips it really adds up and does become a bit tedious, it’s also a minor annoyance finding somewhere to store the cover, if you don’t want to leave it dangling down the side of the car potentially scratching it in the wind, plus there’s a lot of scrambling about on the roof of the car undoing clasps and ties. 2. the surface area the fold out takes up at camp. if you’re wild camping, the spots you pick have to be large enough to fit basically another car alongside you, meaning you can’t just slip in to a lay-by and pop up the tent for some rest. sounds stupid, but it actually does narrow down where you can stay. obviously doesn’t apply if you’re spending most of the time at campsites where there’s usually enough room (although even some hard standing pitches are a squeeze). 3. water ingress of the soft shell cover. hard shells are just loads more waterproof. although the soft covers are totally waterproof there are small gaps where the fabric overlaps and folds near the base, so we’ve had a small amount of water get in. not enough to soak it, but enough for damp mould to appear near the base. the tent has still been ace and i’d still recommended one fully, but if your budget can stretch, get a hard top.

just to expand on the scrambling about on the roof bit - i’ve fallen off setting up in the rain twice. once i somehow managed to flip and luckily land on my feet (really wish i’d caught that on film) and the other time i put my knee through the windscreen. it may sound like a bit of daft reason, but shiny surfaces are very slippy when wet!

Thnx for share, I was wondering - can a wet tent be packed like this? Will not get moldy?
@2planks2 жыл бұрын
only if you leave it wet for a while. we dried it out as soon as we got home! it doesn’t take long to dry out when the weather is dry and even quicker when it’s windy or warm.
