I don't see a problem with any of these.. unless they are specifically stating that the audio is live from the video. Of course they are going to record the audio in a studio environment for a high quality recording without mistakes then record and sync the video separately. More for entertainment and something to watch along with the music. It's not like all the professional music videos are recorded live, they're probably done with 1000 separate takes clipped together to get the perfect Audio/Video..

I think lip-syncing is fine for KZbin videos as long as there’s a good reason for it, but ofc don’t claim it’s live when it isn’t. Though still I think lip-syncing is a much more important problem in actual live, in-person performances like concerts.

So many people aren’t aware that this is going on! But to me it’s kind of the KZbin standard to do that. The only thing that bothers me is when someone labels something as “live” but then you can tell that it’s absolutely not live. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with lip syncing in a KZbin music video (and I’ve done it for a handful of videos myself), I just think it’s not cool to lie (i.e. when you label a prerecorded, highly produced track as “live.”).

no, any video you can assume is lip synced. It makes a much better video to be able to sing it seperately and then make a more fun one that isn't. Then you can do a lot more, go around, move differently, not have to worry about the mic etc. It doesn't even mean they have to have heavy post-production "tuning". It could be just done both seperately one in a better suited room and the video in a more open space.

Unless the people in question SPECIFICALLY disclose that the video is 100% live and unedited... I dont see a problem with it. It is usually more of a music video than an actual live recordance, which obviously wouldn't sound as good because of athmospheric influences. I think they key in this matter is wether they lie about it or not, and claim credit for it where it is not due.

Justin Craft I agree it definitely has to be talked about. Especially when you make so much effort yourself to keep it as authentic as possible. I record a lot of my videos live, some are one takes. But the thing is - often I also record the piano live at the same time and this is real stress, because on piano I make mistakes sometimes. Especially my first videos I recorded as a one takes and just a small mistake ruined everything. one time my guitar fell to the ground in the end of the take and mad a loud "boom" sound. I left it in the recording, because it was the best take. Now I also do some lip sync from time to time to be more free and creative with the video art, but when I lip sync I NEVER put a microphone in the video.

Conor is pretty open on social media that he lip syncs. He said he pre-records the song first to make sure that it is the best quality and films it afterwards. Like most people, he uses auto tune but not insane amounts. If you listen to one of his live performances, he pretty much sounds the same if not better.

I can't believe people actually think they sing live. Hmmm 🤔 Lip syncing is fine, they fine tune their songs. EVERYONE uses pitch correction, even my favourite Michael Jackson does. Autotune is the Lil Wayne, Kanye West robot voice :)

in the UK we had a show called top of the pops and they mimed to the songs nearly all the time.. i just hated the ones who didn't even try.. lol.. but when they do try it's all good with me.. great video by the way :)

i watch some of those old "live" performances here on youtube of artists that i like! i recall that some of them hated performing on top of the pops due to it not being live, but still had to do it for the publicity haha

A good chunk of the vocals were live at least, I think I remember hearing one of the rules was that bands could sing live on there, but their music would have to be a backing track that the band would mime over. A good example of this: search "funeral for a friend top of the pops" and watch their performance of Streetcar.

The douche people are the ones defending the other singers by saying Roomie is talentless or saying that the other singers are way better than him. If anything Roomie is a great person for making this video, he talked about the whole lip syncing situation which dumb people somehow didn’t realize, and then he admitted that he wasn’t a “live” singer and actually pre-recorded himself as well, which is pretty fucking cool because he’s actually being real with his fans. Lol, loving your content dude. Little things we occasionally notice but never really dove into. I guess I always assumed that the audience knows most strong recordings are gonna be lipsynced. Though it does bug me a LOT when they go overboard trying to appear live. (Walk off the earth) Especially when they aren't even wearing headphones, dead giveaway. I'm impressed how much you do live, but I don't blame anyone lipsyncing. Most youtubers are selling these as CD tracks, and if you're trying to do everything live off the floor while also worrying about making good video, its likely to sound or look like garbage. Focus on each element seperately and both will be better. Just don't lie to your audience about it. Keep it up dude:-)

As I do covers myself, I don't think other KZbinrs worry about the video to much rather the quality of the audio and getting it as 'studio like' as possible. Ithink it's only an issue when the cover is labelled as 'live' when it's already been pre recorded. Great video though!
