It can but you can trim that off and zig zag stitch the edge so it doesnt fray :)

So if you don’t cut them, then the bottom is really thick. My grandson’s jeans need to be cut probably 3 inches and I don’t want to 3 inch fold underneath at the bottom so I’m hoping there’s another way.

What was the second stitch for on the right side of the fabric?

It was just a top stitch to keep the fabric in place.

A zipper presser foot. It helps get really close to the original hem!
