BBC did documentary about what Gus is talking about. Suit stores are all franchised now so they no longer train people how to tailor and don't even carry fabrics for hand-crafting suits. Because big business has finally completed its monopoly of the industry, now 98% of all suits are pre-fabs made in general measurements in textile factories. Gus doesn't fit general measurements + no one at the customer level is trained how to alter suits anymore= no suit for Gus

Well that just fucking sucks... I imagine it's going to be a pain in the ass to get my fiance a suit because he has an unusual structure with really wide set shoulders. At least there's some explanation as to why that happened and why apparently tailoring wasn't an option from how the rest of the podcast had continued.

That's... not why. Made to measure has been the standard for a _long_ time now for "high quality" suits, with the vast majority being off the rack. To get real bespoke suits, you'd need to head to London and check out Saville Row. But this is true in smaller shops as well. It's not "hurr durr big business." If anything, it's a result of a decline in men wearing suits.

@@DoughnutDragon Those are only true if you wear bargain-basement suits. We're talking suits your order online that cost like $20 for the jacket. Even then, it's iffy. Suits literally evolved to compliment the male figure in ways that would give subconscious positive responses. And were also designed to be breathable so that the jackets could be worn in hot summer months.
