It seems like Rooster Teeth has been shutting down criticial voices in their Rooster Teeth subreddit. In this video I show several deleted threads and discuss whether they were toxic or hate posts. But please let me know you're thoughts in the comments. It’s been years since I listened to Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Barbara Dunkelman and Gus Sorola on the RT Podcast. A lot has happened since then. But it seems like the downfall of Rooster Teeth continues. The Ryan Haywood Drama from Achievement Hunter and Adam Kovic from Funhaus had their scandal, which was followed by layoffs and brutally bad reviews written by previous employees on Glassdoor. Another ex Achievement Hunter employee and voice actress of RWBY comes forward with hard hitting accusations against the company. Kdin Jenzen, who worked with Rooster Teeth for almost 10 years and who primarily appeared on Achievement Hunter but was also known for voicing May Marigold in RWBY amongst other credits, left the company in June 2022. And just a few months ago she shared a detailed piece about some of her experiences within the company, including some shocking details of what’s allegedly really going on behind the scenes at RT. Geoff Ramsey, Gus Sorola, Michael Jones and Rooster Teeth responded with official statements at the time. Let's discuss the end of Rooster Teeth!

I'll say this forever. Rooster Teeth hated their fans, hated their opinions, hated their input. They called their fans racist and bigoted. They insinuated that their fans hate minorities and LGBT just for criticizing the company. It was and still is BAFFLING to me. Why would you self destruct and attack your fans for NO reason. I will never understand why. Ego? Money? Both?

Just for the record, the Rooster Teeth employees that were mods of the subreddit were removed as mods during one of the recent scandals because the “civilian” mods didn’t like the optics of RT employees having control. Problem is, the non-employee mods are just as bad, if not worse, in terms of censoring discussions they don’t like.

Jack using videos to soapbox when I just wanted “haha fart joke epic gamer moment” type videos was just gross.

They didn't want to believe they had any problems. This allowed issues to fester and drive away their audience. Them being mad at people for saying the end is coming instead of listening as to why amid plummeting viewership is exactly why the company died. Their catalog has over 400 series. That shows the desperation to make something viewers wanted, but all they had to do was listen.

You can even tell by just the kind of posts you see in r/rwby that it's not a very good representation of reality, because they remove anything and everything that can be seen as negative. @SerenaSilvermoonVT I typically avoid the subreddit now, but recently I was looking for information about v10 and the v9 special edition thing that's coming out soon and wound up clicking on it. Pretty much every comment was saying how v10 doesn't deserve to happen, the show needs to die, the writers suck, that they're trashing Monty's name, etc. Not exactly criticism in any sense. Besides that, before I found myself disagreeing with a lot of topics there. Ironwood's downfall, Penny's purpose, Adam's character assassination, the fact Blake cries over Yang falling and Ruby doesn't when they're sisters (even tho Ruby was too busy fighting for her life to have a crying session). Everything has its fair points but to some people, the writing is 100% in the wrong and inexcusable--i.e. there is no discussion to be had other than dunking on it. It's so overdramatized how bad the show is there.

The whole point of Reddit is the COMMUNITY curates the front page based on collective voting. If the community is sick of a certain post or topic they can downvote and move on, that’s how it should work. There was no need for mods to step in and remove it. And yes, this attitude of trying to force narratives on the community killed the company long ago.

Eurgh, this is why so many people gave up on RT. To be honest RT were always up thier own ar*se to a certain degree. Geoff and Jack would talk about 'arm chair ceo's' and react very badly to any critism. This led to to people within the company saying they weren't listend to when they brought up bad things happening in the workplace. RT always thought they were perfect and arrogant for it. Turns out they're still arrogant despite going under like so many former fans said they would.

i mean. This was all pretty obvious when it came to the Ky situation. Her levels on her mic in videos was insanely high. to a point where it was an issue for headphone wearers because her voice just cut through due to poor audio mixing. Instead of taking that criticism and correcting it. they turned it into a missile and attacked fans. leadership as a whole was terrible for roosterteeth and achievement hunter. They didn't know what they were doing. Forced shitty improv (that they were never good at) and couldn't take any advice of what the fans thought on the matter. Their failure's led to the company collapsing. Personally, it was insane to me that they even had over 100 employees. I understand they have things they wanted to do. But they really needed to approach having more contractors as opposed to turning a contractor into a full-time employee and wondering where their money is going.

long term achievement hunter viewer from 2011-2019 here yea, the RT employees kinda forgot who their target audience was and after, at least what i recall and why i walked away from their content, they do indeed care for their community but they were toxically positive. there was no room for criticism and if you didn't like their content you were specifically addressed IN the content to leave or don't watch it. at the end of the day, their personal lives were too intertwined with their internet personas and, probably, is mostly why they couldn't take criticism (cause it was in part a jab at them personally). i know specifically that ryan held an internet persona the most. his goal was always to make entertaining content (this is not me saying he was the only one trying). ryan's departure for gross things really shifted the content's tone and changed whatever 'personas' existed within the content. no longer were they just being entertaining but they were trying to compensate good vibes which ruined the whole chemistry of the content. not to even mention that the original cast had shifted substantially and (ironically), as a mid 20s yo woman, i found it very hard to relate to the new cast. i really do love these people, i watched the hell out of their content for years. i watched many twitch streams from all of them outside of achievement hunter content, and i still watch ray on his twitch lol. like, these are entertainers, they have always been entertainers to me. their content is a form of escape and i really hated that they brought life back into the fiction of videogames. we were always here to laugh and it doesn't work to be 'woke' in a form of sarcastic environment

Michael and Ray were why I got into AH and RT in the first place. Found a random rage quit video im pretty sure it was the first impossible game video and then I became hooked and it felt like a family of sorts. Every day of the week was something new to look forward to and for a time things were amazing. Once Ray left I noticed the change in how things were going but still continued to watch. But you're right the attitudes and personalities changed over time and that's a human thing to do we all change wether we like to admit it or not but unfortunately who they are now is not who we came to see. Michael use to be king edgelord and boldly wore that badge on his chest now he's got paper thin skin. Ray was smart in leaving even he did as even today his streams are still highly entertaining and he genuinely cares for his fans.

Everyone else had good moments but every time Ray said something it made me laugh so I followed him to twitch. I think I had stumbled upon a let's play around 2019/2020ish as well but going from what I remembered with the old cast to the new ones, it didn't feel like there was chemistry at all between anyone playing. It felt like they were being forced to play a video game together rather than hoping on to play a game (which is more relatable as an audience member since this helps create the feeling they enjoy a title as much as you do). It truly didn't look/feel the same as 2012-2015 AH

It was primarily anyone who disagreed with whatever they said or did. Each time part of the fan base was treated like an enemy, they simply wouldn't come back. Do it enough times, than who's left? If this is the mentality of the company, can we really expect the mods to do any better?

100% The official Rooster Teeth (and related official) subs have been bad for there entire existence, and RT always had it super locked down to be just barely more then the Bot Posting Video links. I think the corporate goal was to push fans to their first member/RT forums, but RT had the mods neuter the sub(s) so much that it killed all non-positive feedback on the sub because it was a waste of time to post it. The big scandals got too big to ignore, but even pre-fullscreen they wanted a community but not really to hear from it.

This is why I've hated the RoosterTeeth community for so many years now. I love RT itself, but the community are a massive band of white knights who ultimately ended up drowning out the criticism the company needed. The "RIP bozo" people should definitely be shut down, but shutting down criticism only hurts. I still mainly blame WB for axing the company in the first place, but the borderline zeal seen in the community is appalling. I've straight up been harassed by people in the community when I said that the Ryan scandal was handled horribly (both by the company and community).

I've spoken quite a few times on the reddit and the RT site itself over the last decade and my experience has been the same. I've always been respectful and mentioned both sides when being constructive with criticism. But its ALWAYS treated like an attack. In response I've been insulted by other community members and then hopeful for a moderators input, only to have them back up the toxicity. Obviously its way worse on the site. It was the reason I really stopped watching RT when they were starting to really stumble a few years ago. The cast put out a blanket go f*** yourselves if you don't like anything we do. And the toxic calvalry rode in and indiscriminately slaughtered any kind of healthy conversation. Only time an RT employee was nice to me (outside of talent at a con) was customer service when I cancelled my first subscription. This guys comment section is honestly the best place to discuss RT, that I've found.

Those posts fully nailed it and the fact they then got pulled really highlights what I think has always been the issue with RT. I feel like as a company they never let go of the early 2000s gamer-bro I know everything and fuck your critisism mentality that became the stereotype for COD players etc. back in the day. That was who they were and what got them their initial fanbase and as the company grew they started saying all the right political/inclusive things that they needed to in order to not sink or get sued but they didn't actually believe any of it and it just meant that you ended up with two groups of people; Fans who kept complaining about them being too "woke" who they then told to leave and fans who were minorities whose critisim they wouldn't listen too when they fucked up or made a misstep and as a result neither group felt valued or wanted in the community even if they liked the content. They were trying to appeal to both groups and ended up with neither because everything they did pissed off one or the other or both.

there was a play palls video, where michael and gavin were in the room they do it in, there was a random pair of new shoes in the room that someone had left, and gavin took them put them in the little trash can in the room and set them outside the door. you then later about 10 mins or so hear loud yelling outside the room. gavin then sticks his head and the little web cam they had hooked up outside the door, and it was Trevor scolding the team on how this isnt acceptable and someone would want these new shoes. this was around the time geoff left achievement hunter and trevor started taking over that roll. to me it showed a side of trevor we dont get to see on camera, and from the looks at the people around at that moment being scolded were almost scared of trevor in that moment. gavin then gently closes the door and smerks as to signify i got em. was the first time i could remember seeing a change in or how i took it to be.. never really looked at Trevor the same after that. Just like many employees that came from the community that we all know and love under the rooster teeth umbrella (ah, podcast, shorts) I like many others wanted to be apart of rt in a whole and work with them in the early 2010s and when I went to college for film I had a goal to be a intern with them and work my way into the company. But the step that kept me away from achieving that goal was being in the threads and being that follower that never looked the other way and asked the question “what are we doing?” As in looking at ourselves and critiquing what should be fixed. I didn’t want to be a yes man because ultimately I do ask the questions we all are asking and wanted correction for mistakes. I’m sad they are shutting down but like many of my friends and I have said since the shut down announcement, it was a long time coming. Even Bruce and Lawrence on their show said they lasted this long but toxic mindsets drove it down. I fell off being a big fan after the Ryan controversy and then when all the other controversy’s started after I started to see them for what they were, just a corporate mouthpiece trying to be relevant leaving us original fans kinda scratching our heads

Then began to stop watching them over the course of the nxt year. Then in 2016-17 when they jumped on the political bandwagon, I and a few maybe a lot of people began to be turned away because it seemed like Jack would just go on his tirades with politics. Then after 4-5 yrs of not watching RT, I tried again in 2020 saw the direction the company went and I was turned away forever. I remember watchinig RT/AH everyday in middle school and high school - I myself was a huge fan of the RT Podcast. So sad to see how far they have fallen. When youtube channels get big they develop an ego. Especiially true for youtube channels that have been around for a while - the OGs of youtube. I think RT is no exception to this. They get it in their head that they know better and can do no wrong - anything they put out will be a smashing hit and if its not then thats because of the haters. Seen this happen to multiple older youtubers and now we've seen it here from RT. I stopped watching RT/AH in highschool around 2016 2017ish (just naturally lost interest) and haven't kept up aside from the occassional scandal so I don't know when it started but it's very clear to me that their own egos got in the way and alienated fans

Not surprised, at this point what does RT even have to say to even remotely explain their behavior over the past years with their treatment of fans who don't share the same beliefs that they do. Ship has been sunk, let them have their titanic moment. In the end, no matter what happens there's no washing or scrubbing away the reality that they themselves created the iceberg.
