Can the torque be improved by adding a optionally switchable threaded rod drive? As in: the belts provide speed, when the torque is needed, the carriage bearings clamp down on the otherwise free thread rod, thus "switching gears" from speed to torque. Of course the code procession will become a little bit complicated then, though.

So I'm about to print this sucker fully now lol! very nice design BTW, did you come up with it or collective effort? I plan on using mine with 2 watt laser lol so should be interesting! In the process right now actually building last 5 parts to hold the laser >^_^< But have to say very nice bearing layout and such works so damn well scary : ) I ended up using Nema 17 Hyb motors as well! huge change in how this things action preformed! actual cnc controller as well to run em! But props well done!

Cheers man - apologies for the late reply, just didnt see it! Just my own design, well tbh I have watched a lot of KZbin of what other people have done and attempted to stick all good Ideas (I thought) together. I am glad you have made one and spent the time writing and posting your build on here and on Thingiverse. It does mean a great deal to me. =] when you get your laser on it, please post some videos on your channel!
