@ama so this is how it happened. Originally Hutu and Tutsi were never ethnic groups but social group. Rwanda is made up of three different people. Hutu, Tutsi and Twa. Tutsi were like rich people who usually owned cattle. Cattle was expensive so owning one was a sign of wealth and status. Twa were like the middle class and were usually artisans. Hutu were poor farmers. A Hutu can become a Tutsi if his wealth increased. This is where the it all changes. Belgium invaded and colonized Rwanda. They were fascinated by a certain feature in some Rwandans and decided Tutsi, Hutu and Twa will not be decided on social class but in physical features such as skin tone, height, nose size, lip size, cheek bone, etc. So basically a Tutsi could have a Hutu as a brother just because they looked different. Belgium changed it.

@ama Belgium let the Tutsi be the elite ruling class in Rwanda and the Hutu had much resentment towards the Tutsi because of this. And it was eventually time to end the colonization. Right before the belgians left, they installed the Hutu in power and then left. After they left, the genocide happened. This is like stirring up black ants hole and stirring up red ants hole and then putting them together to fight.

Individuals came instigated and then left, would be a better way to say it. We need to be careful not to make the very same mistakes that lead to genocides. Blaming an entire group of people for the wrongs done by individual members of that group is what leads to genocides. That is exactly what the hutus did to the tutsis. You cannot blame an entire group of people who share the same color of a body part for what some of the people who have that color of a body part did. A very wise man once said that people should be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin. Let's go about our lives loving all of our fellow humans.

I am not a Rwadan or African but i was told by a Congolese man (not a hutu) that the Tutsi are the ones causing problems in the region. can someone expound on this? is it true? why would he feel this way?

I spent time in The Sudan(before it was divided) and that country is defined by racial/ethnic divisions perpetrated by the Arabs of that country. Do Tutsis espouse some type of superiority complex toward the Hutu and other ethnicities of the region?

The causes were similar to the Holocaust: Step 1: economic hardship in the country Step 2: narative is created about a certain group that's wealthy, powerful and oppressing Step 3: individuals in that group are clearly identified and persecuted Step 4: war starts Step 5: the international community doesn't care Step 6: genocide starts In the 80s the price of coffee dropped making life for Rwandan harder that it was already. In 1990 the Tutsi refugees tried to force their way back into their country from the north displacing over 1 million Hutus. The whole country started being fearful so they formed Hutu Power and started identifying the Tutsi civilians. The UN was in the country but refused to help after what happened in Somalia. The Hutu Power grew tired of their president that was not radical enough by trying to establish democracy. The Western Powers had won the cold war in 89 and were demanding more democracy from countries they were sending aid to. The triggering event was the president's plane being shot down by Hutus to blame the Tutsis.

I'd rather this dive deeper... Its semi explained... My people, our people, were divided during that trans-atlantic slavery period. Tutsi's "The favored" shared their wealth with the European colonists, rightfully so. But the Hutus were denied that benefit... and mostly abused; forced to run away from the "Northern Evil". I 100% believe this is the critical part right here; They were hunted & captured @ the request of these European nations, & the Tutsi would sellout & follow through... even after 1807 (primarily Belgium/Germany) This was catalyst of what would now be known as the Rwandan Genocide... A revenge story for the betrayal of brotherhood... Revenge for the willingness to hurt your own... Africa was robbed of everything. Oh... & the Catholic Church... was giving the thumbs up for all of this... They know how powerful religion was... That's why they stared spreading that shit to the tribes... To control us.

Tutsi Hutu and Twa are actually all people of the Batu. The full name is Batutsi, Bahutu and Batwa.

Before belgium colonized Rwanda, Tutsi Hutu and Twa was a hierarchy class or rank in the Rwandan society. Basically like the poor the middle class and the rich. A person born a hutu can become a tutsi if he because successful and rich. But belgium changed this. They told lies that hutu came from chad, tutsi came from the middle east and twa were from Nigeria. Belgians also changed what defines a tutsi a hutu and a twa by physical features like nose size, skin color, height, etc. But this wasn't the original way. Belgium came and divided the people and instigated internal strife, turning brothers against brothers to hate each other.

A very huge , complex and difficult ethinic and tribal challenge in Rwanda, so we are informed by the video that Tutsis have borne the brunt of brutal co-existence in Rwanda.It seems that the Tutsis were never accepted as equal citizens of this troubled central African nation.The narrator further tell us that in 1962 , 1967 and 1973 they were documented savage massacres , or killings orchestrated by Hutu leaders. Then from the theme of the revelations Tutsis are considered aliens who invaded Rwanda and need to be treated with disdain.
