Love this. Never tried root over rock, but come spring here in the UK it is definite project for me to attempt if I can find the right rock.

i like that yall didnt edit out the thinking phase. thats an important step to making sure you are confident in what you want. also i agree its better to have it look like it got knocked down in a storm.

Great instructional video mate. Here in Australia we can get away with doing it in any season, depending where you live. I have a small forest of Ficus Figs that I inadvertently obtained by sticking in branches of the Ficus Fig in a pot whilst pruning. I may try this on them.

That's so true, here in Florida it's hit or miss with good rocks. If you find them it's best to snag them, I have a rock yard walking distance from me thankfully. I'd like to try ROR with some of my desert trees (bursera, Boswellia, commiphora).

I'd love to see more videos on other types of trees using this technique. Could it be used on a Cyprus Hinoki? I have a small one, about a year old; how many years should I wait to apply this technique if I could do so?

I do the same with bonsai where i have to picture a "story" in my mind of how it would have grown like that in full scale in the wild. it's more artistic than following strict bonsai style techniques

Hey, thank you for your kind words! Yes I will shorten the tree once the roots have attached to the rock! For now I will let the tree grow pretty freely

I bought a bonsai that apparently is ready to be planted on a rock. It’s got some type of cloth on it right now. I hope it works. Much appreciated

That sounds like burlap which can be used to do root over rock. Make sure you don't remove it too early.

I've never Bonsai'ed before. (is that a word?) But, I certainly learned by watching the process. GREAT explanation along the way and loved how you considered the story line of a possible storm blowing the tree against the rock! It was a dark stormy night...... BRAVO!!

I find use saran wrap works great to not only hold the tree to the rock, but also to hold the moisture in the soil.

I usually plant the tree and the rock into a deep container and expose the root gradually. So I am curiously looking for updates on this one. Thanks!

just wondering how the tree ends up after romoval of the moss? does it take a year or more before it can grow without the moss? looks great btw

Hi, it depends on specie and climate but the moss was removed about a year after and it was growing well on its own.

Are those Spot Spitters in the background? Do Spot-Spitters work with drip-manifolds? (Orbit, Rain Bird, etc.) Or do you need full pressure for a Spot Spitters?
