My Husband was Indian and always listened to Jagjit Singh Jee's Ghazals. Listening those ghazals all the time in house and in car, I got hooked up to Jagjit Jee. I was fortunate to attend this concert when we were visiting Sydney. My husband succumbed to cancer and is no more but I have his memories specially of that are associated with his love for Jagjit Jee's Ghazals. This Sydney Concert was my husbands last Jagjit Jee's Live concert. Now when I want to be alone and get lost into my husband's memories, I just dim the lights, sit on couch with eyes closed and listen to the soulful Jagjit Jee's Ghazals. I am sure they both must be meeting up there and my husband listening to Jagjit Jee live.

मैं एक प्राइभेट कलेज मैं कम्प्यूटर अपरेटर का नोकरी करता था। एक दिन कालेज में क्लास बंद थे पर मैं कुछ काम के लिए कालेज गया था, फिर मैंने कम्प्यूटर पर थोड़ी उंची आवाज पर जगजीत सिंह जी का गजल चलवाला ओर अपने काम मैं मस्त मगन हो गया। कुछ देर बाद कालेज के डाइरेक्टर आकर अपने चियार पे बैठकर गजले सुनने लगे पर मुझे पता नहीं चला। कुर देर बाद जब मे उठा तो उनपे नजर पड़ा मैं घबरा गया क्युंकी कालेज पे उचें आवाज में गाने सुनना कुछ ठीक बात नहीं है, मैं ने घबराकर गजल बंद कर दी। फिर डाइरेक्टर सर ने हंसते हुए कहा क्युं बंद किया चलने देता। इतने में उन्होंने मुस्कुराते हुए कहा हां मैं भी कालेज-युनीभरसिटि के टाइम से गजल सुनता हु। उन्होंने कहा "गजल एक नशा है, जिसको इसकी लत नगती है न वह मरते दम तक गजल सुनता है", उनकी यह बात आज भी मैं याद करता हुँ। जीन्दगी कुछ खोया कुछ पाया पर उसका कुछ खास मायने नहीं रखता मेरे लिए, पर जीन्दगी मैं कितना भी धन-दौलत, नाम-शोहरत, पैसा-गाड़ी बनाले इस बात की दुख हमेशा रहेगा जगजीत सिंह जी को एक बार भी लाइव कन्सर्ट मैं देख नहीं पाए। इस बात का दुख जीवन भर रहेगा। क्युं इतना जल्द चले गये आप। 😓😓

I remember in 2007, I was a first year University student in Bangladesh. Jagjitji came to Dhaka for a concert and I wanted to attend. But the cheapest ticket was BDT 7000 (more than USD 100) and I didn't even have BDT 1000. I told to myself when I will have money I will attend a concert of this maestro. But he passed away in 2011. I cried as if I lost someone in my family. Now I can afford to go to concerts but I will always have this regret that Jagjitji was in my city and I could not go watch him sing. "Hazaaron Khawahishain Aisi K Har Khawahish Pe Dam Nikly" But this Khawahish of mine will never be fulfilled. Thank you Jagjitji for blessing us with our music.

From the age of 16/17 I have been listening him and till date never get bored. I always think I was lucky enough to attend one of his concert in 1998 just after my marriage. It was in Guwahati. I was so excited that I even could not find himself in the stage, my eyes were searching him all over the stage then my wife told me, What are you looking for? He is in the stage, can't you see him. It was really a memorable night to us, still can remember each and every moment of that programme.

I was a student in 8th grade… My Maama ji took me (out of great force and because someone cancelled their ticket) to this Maestro’s concert at Koramangala indoor stadium, Bengaluru… it changed my life and the way I saw music ever after… I just have tears seeing this Sydney Opera house concert as it was similar to what I went. Maama ji na rahe magar yaadein taaza rahegi. Jab tak mein rahoonga…

Here's my story. I first heard Jagjit and Chitra Singh as a teenage in 1982. Since then, I have bought practically all the cassettes and CD's they ever released, and listen every week, but there was a 10-year gap in the 90's when I would listen to Pankaj Udhas. Jagjit Singh has given me enormous pleasure and happiness through his singing. About 20 years ago, I met my soul mate, but she was happily married to someone else. In pain, and with a heavy heart, I would listen to Jagjit Singh ghazals in a dark room with candles, and a glass of red wine, and I would literally have tears in my eyes. She was the most amazing person I had ever met, and to this day, she is absorbed in every single Jagjit Singh ghazal. And whenever I listen to his music now (God bless his soul - he passed away too soon), I can feel her in my heart. (As for my soul-mate, sadly, real life is different from Bollywood/Hollywood movies - both of us confessed our feelings for each other....she too realised that me and her were meant to be together...... but matrimonial situation, kids and old-fashioned values meant that it never got to anything more than that. But she stays in my thoughts, and in my last breathe I will probably be saying her name.)

Jagjit ji you were the one to relieve the pain of every broken heart.. Your soulful voice and your singing were like fresh air.. We all miss you.. Your singing anyways was so enigmatic. However, you were an artist beyond comparison when it came to live concerts.. You had the art of getting the audience hooked to your music. Being a part of your concerts was something else..
