@southsidedezi 2 out of 3 did root and survive. As stated in the video, there is no specific time frame. These ones took a few weeks. Good Luck!

You should wrap them each separately in paper. Cause if one rot , the paper will act as a barrier to prevent the rotting from jumping to the other cutting

I have had really good luck with starting the fig cutting in water for about 2 or 3 weeks when the roots start to form i plant in a perlite / soil mix and i get leaf growth within a couple more weeks after that. When i put into soil mixture i put a 2 little bottle as a green house then once i see growth i remove the cap off the 2 litter bottle to add air circulation but keeping the green house effect so growth does not mold . works great for me on figs.

Hi, Nice video. You sort of inspired me to make a video and try this youtube thing myself. I started growing figs two years ago. I always used news paper but now use sphagnam moss mostly.

@tmc200527 Thank you very much for creating your own version on “how to root fig cuttings”. I hope you will be able other wonderful videos such as the ones you made!

Yes. Perlite drains very fast. You always want the cutting to be in a damp environment. There's a fine line though. You don't want it to be soaked, but simply damp. Don't let the perlite completely dry out or the roots will dry out and die.

I will honest and say there are other ways to do it and you pointed out another interesting way to do it. Hence, everyone should experiment different ways to propagate figs.
@mtlfigs13 жыл бұрын
@Dillstuck Yes you can do that. Just remove all the leafs and figs from the cutting. Good luck!

Cbd. thanks for the advice. I thought so, thus I kept the perlite fed with water every time they were light followed by letting the cups drain - A week after I put the first cutting into the cup I put two more into cups, that was in Nov.. Three weeks ago many roots apeared in the cups, so I transplanted the three cuttings each in a pot into soil in my office. They apear to be doing fine, the green unborn shoots are shiny visible now. I can't wait for spring to take them outside.

Did it root and how long does it take to root?

I was told to take cuttings in late october or early november and plant them directly in pots after letting the cuttings sit a few days. Then put them in a protected place to winter, watering them once a month. I was told that they will sprout in the spring. Do you think this is a good method? If the cuttings are kept outside in the winter, what need would there be to put them in the frig?

If you place the figs branches in the frige (winterising), it will actually train the future tree to support better the cold weather.

I have four cuttings wrapped in wet newsprint paper for four weeks now. One of them, last week apeared to have roots growing at its base, which I transplanned into a clear 16oz cup full of perlite. When I checkd the cup yesterday I found the water evaporated out of the perlite-full cup (the cup was very light!) MY QUESTION IS ...... Do I have to keep putting water into the perlite-full cup when dry??????

@Norman60Fahrer I have never used root hormones but I guess it could work. However, someone told me that you should use gel based hormones and not powder based hormones. If I can remember well it had something to do with rotting… Remember that there all sorts of way to root fig cuttings that go beyond what I show in this video.

Hi, I recently purchased fig cuttings on eBay who have come from Italy. there are 4 of them > i have put them in compost and after 1 week i started to see the buds getting green and now there are leaves coming but along them there are fig coming up . There are no roots so far that is why i am worried and amazed why there are leaves coming on without the roots. Shall i cut the figs off the cuttings or leacve as it is?

I live in Wales and have about 6 developed figs (Brown Turkey and Brunswick along a south facing wall. I have bought other varieties to join them and have taken cuttings from them (in late autumn) in transparrent pots in a perlite and vermiculite mix and have them near a large north facing window. Some are progressing extremely well, but two Brown Turkey developed one leaf and roots, but then I noticed that the leaf in both cases went floppy and died and the roots appear to have gone a dark brown. The wood on one appears to be loosing its life. Is this through over or under watering? I am misting the leaves on all of them a couple of times a day. When would you advise transplanting them out of the mix into soil in a larger pot? Should I wait for longer days - March or April, or can I do it now in January? I intend starting some more in early February. Would that be too early here in Wales?

Would anyone know what is to be done for bugs like "nosee'ms" that surronud my cuttings in the pots wating for the spring to get them out of my office environment. Firstly, does anyone know if they are harmfull and second, can I spray with an outdoor bug pesticide to get rid of them. One of my cuttings , the one closest to the heat vent appears to be drying out, though I keep them watered till I see the top of the pot getting dry - about once a week.

hi Alex, it is recommended that to not let the fruit trees have any fruit on them in the first two years. therefore young tree is going to use its energy for growing into its main shape rather than producing fruits. sorry for my english.
