Root stocks resistant to replant disease on old orchard sites in my experience is one of the most important considerations in selecting a full dwarf rootstock

Try the Bud 9 for strong growing varieties and B118 for weak ones. I really like the B118. Both are nice to graft onto since it's easy to see if the graft has taken, being a different color. Also Antonovka for large trees, can be grown from seed, but I think B118 might yield quicker.

no apple root grows well in poor drainage tile drainage or ditching should be cosidered
