Nice to hear how very well and honest you credit the legendary John Lennon´s ability to play guitarr Mr Slick!..... Nice to hear that you consider MR LENNON ONE OF THE VERY BEST GUITARRPLAYER YOU HAVE EVER PLAYED WITH.... AND THAT YOU LEARNT A LOT FROM HIM.... I guess it was the same with his fingers as with what came out from his mouth - it was that great feel that can´t be denied and that can´t be compared with anyone or anything!....REMEMBER LOVE AND PEACE....

I had the good fortune of meeting Mike Garson. I asked him about his techniques and tricks he used during this Bowie era ( 73-75) and he looked at me and said " I cant really remember" as well as " I just played whatever" While he's telling me this he has this boyish grin about him. That's when I realized how many people were on autopilot in the 70's. hahaha God bless them all! THE MUSIC WAS/IS SO INCREDIBLE! haha. Best Decade for music!

This is from the Fest for Beatles fans. Earl spent the weekend signing stuff, doing interviews and playing with the amazing band Liverpool in the evening. I saw him outside having a smoke and talked him up for 7 or 8 minutes. Really great guy as you can see here. Humble but a true rocker who has managed to show up on some of the most iconic records! He mentioned working on a line of guitar straps and he has a really amazing guitar line he designed that are really affordable. Definitely a fan. Check out his Reverb video talking about Golden Years.

Great stories. I remember Bowie's producer of 'Fame' (co written by Lennon) whose name escapes me, said much the same about John's guitar playing on that track... "No metronome or click track needed for him!...He was a fantastic rhythm player"

When we heard Earl on Bowie live at the tower in Philly we were blown away if it wasn't for the drug years interrupting he would have been a house hold name!

In May Pangs book Loving John there are some great stories about that "Lost Weekend" period. A lot of great music went down. Some of it still has to surface. Including stories about that Young Americans period.

I don't think slick knew or heard the demos, But most if not all the songs were demoed out before the album was cut. Jack Douglas had a band at the Recordplant who were playing the songs in many different Genres. Jack and John picked the feels and then they went to the Hit Factory to do the sessions. I was there cutting my own album for Epic at the time. And knew John and May from the "Walls and Bridges"Album recorded at the Recordplant back in 74. Which was considered the "Lost Weekend period. John had invited me over to his east 49-51? st penthouse overlooking the east river for some quality time just talking for about 2 wks. I was a staff engineer at HF and you will only here this here. I saw Johns killer hanging out in the lobby of the Hit Factory sometime before john was shot. [Although he was killed leaving the Recordplant] When Yoko was mixing "Walking on Thin Ice] With the last engineer to see John alive Sam Ginsberg. I know it was him and it was the kind of place where there was no security and john never thought about security during these sessions. Only on the 6th floor was it tightened. Nowhere else in the building. We did not have a security guard at the original HF on 48 st. AKA Frankie DAugusta

Cynthia Lennon has a youtube book which is read by someone else where she mentions that she and John went to one of those people who predict the future and she said that the woman predicted that John would be shot and killed in the United States. Maybe John thought it was bullshit but it is surprising that he didn't have protection. In addition to his death being a tragedy, the worst thing that happened is that Mark David Chapman got what he wanted: Fame.

@@MrAschiff I still would like to know why Yoko fired John's bodyguard.
@MrAschiff

@@waynej2608 I have no idea whether she did or whether she didn't. I don't even know that he had one in the first place. I've seen footage of them walking with Sean in Central Park without a bodyguard. Do you have evidence that he had one. Where is the proof.

@@MrAschiff the former fbi man was quoted widely in the press at the time and since, about warning Yoko that during the publicity kicking up from August 1980 onward, she should allow him and his crew to remain around them; he also pleaded with her to stop announcing their whereabouts, the studios they'd be in, etc. He said, literally, "You're going to get someone hurt." She replied "I need to sell records." Now, Andrew, I've never heard that he and Cynthia were warned by a psychic. Which book is this? There was someone working within sight of the Dakota who had a precognitive vision of sorts about six to nine months before the murder, when she looked out the window and saw the building. She was able to contact Yoko, asking if she had a sister with a little boy, saying she saw them in great distress. But of course the vision was of Yoko and Sean....

These days it's all about playing 100MPH notes just dribbling out with no real place to go John didn't think his guitar playing was good but if you go back and listen to certain things he came up with some very lovely things dear prudens. Still blows me away

It's not about how fast you can play images is a master peace but it only 3 chords very simple and at the same time just a very lovely song today s. Guitars need to hit the reset button and think of something before you play . your not at the Indy 500
