A phenomenal trombonist. An amazing sound, so clear and powerful in every register.

I love his tone quality. It isn't as strong as Alessi's, but Rijen's is very personalized and unique. Thumbs up!

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe Jorgen performed it better that Alessi

Personally, I still consider Alessi's interpretation to be my favorite. But I completely understand why many would prefer Jorgen's. Both were equally amazing.

+Will Stephens Alessi's is technically amazing, particularly his breath control, but I find this one more moving

Unpopular? Both are great performers so in comparison, it just comes down to preference
@DayWarrior67 жыл бұрын
I really appreciated how he didn't take the passage at 5:34 up an octave like Alessi and many other trombonists at that level do. If the composer felt the piece would have been better with that section in that octave, it would have been written that way to begin with, or it would have at least said "opt. 8va". I love Alessi's playing but that's the one thing he does from time to time that really irks me.
@brasstrombone912 жыл бұрын
I also think that it could also have something to do with the equipment that they choose to play. I think that Jorgen's sound is a bit of a throw back to the glory days of the Conn 88H and the Remington studio sound. Alessi on the other hand is the "new" trombone sound that we hear coming from New York and Chicago. Not that I'm saying that Jorgen isn't progressive in the literature that he chooses to premiere it is just that his tone and playing style are old school. I happen to like both.

Not a copy out (I hope) but I like them about equally for different reasons - Alessi's for the technical perfection and van Rijen's for the emotion and that unbelievable tone. Flip a coin. I'd like to hear a recording of James Markey playing this as well.

I have Trudel's version, who is really amazing with french pieces and I must say that I still prefer his version than this one. However, Jörgen van Rijen did and extraordinary job there, and I think the difference is really because of the pianist who, although he is pretty good, doesn't feel as good as Mr. Rijen feels it.

Samuel Gagnon do you know where i could find the trudel recording of this? i’m curious to hear how he handles it
@AttackTurkey111 жыл бұрын
Very good. My only complaint, which is shared by some more is his movement. When a professional can play as well as this, they can do whatever the hell they want, but frankly, I feel like his movement interferes with stage presence and sound projection. I'm almost getting a Doppler effect from the way the mics picked up his sound. That's my only complaint. The performance otherwise was spectacular.
