Jackie Chan comes from an era where they actually hit the stunt doubles (where he came up). Tough and precise with actual real martial arts techniques as always. Love the real world breakdown (that I’ve also given a lot of people). Shanghai Noon and Kill Bill are always my references for getting people to understand what a rope dart is haha.

Love this video!!!!! my favorite scene in that movie, my favorite actor of all time, and my favorite dart instructor!!!! The only way to top this is to make a video where you recreate this scene yourself!!!!!

@@Supercat40 By the way, is there a name for the technique of doing a vertical shot then translating the fall momentum into another shot? I've been trying to figure out something along these lines for a week or so (usually elbow up then elbbow out) and it's a great challenge to develope quicker reactions any tips or info would be much appreciated.

@@yogimojo4685 I’ve seen something like this called ‘Put a Josstick to the Sky’ but that usually involves either an OverLord or elbow twine stall to vertical shot followed by the next shot

Idk about Jackie Chan as a person but as a stuntman and perfomer he is at the top of the mountain.

Thank you for this super cool breakdown! Even to a novice dartist like me, this scene looks way more legit than many other rope dart movie scenes. And for once, it's the hero using the dart! Why do we so many more movie villains using rope dart/meteor anyway?
@Supercat402 жыл бұрын
Great question but not sure! I never even thought of that but you’re right! We need more hero’s with rope darts 🎯🙌🙂

Likely reflects a historical reality... or at least what could possibly be one. Certain weapons, especially hidden ones, be they knives, batons or flexible weapons that can be easily concealed, may more often than not be used by, or at least associated with, people who had less than stellar intentions. With such a stigma, they might be less likely to be passed on as part of a martial tradition the same way say the sword or spear are. And also why exact historical information on them is so scarce and unclear. Modern laws, depending on where you live, even reflect this by banning various concealable weapons. Movies can fit into this by perpetuating the stereotype that only villains use such things. It's an interesting phenomenon when you think about it.

@@WhiteApeMA rope darts/meteor hammers were used by private guards and escorts so not always nefarious. Common folks/peasants carried them too, sort of a pocket knife, and that’s probably why we see it portrayed as a villainous weapon

Dear friend thanks so much for this video and all of your videos. I was wanting to ask if you would be able to do a demonstration or possibly even tutorial of the Phoenix nods head three times technique as it is so hard to see with the video transitions and cuts used in the movie Shanghai noon
