Ropinirole

Ropinirole or Requip remains a popular treatment for Parkinson's Disease and also was once widely prescribed for troublesome Restless Leg Syndrome. Ropinirole is available as an extended release form for Parkinson's Disease and an immediate release form taken 1-3 hours before bedtime mostly in those with restless leg syndrome.
Ropinirole must be slowly titrated over several weeks to an appropriate dose. In early Parkinson's Disease, Ropinirole may be the only drug necessary. Typically up to 12 mg may be required. In more advanced disease ropinirole may be added to levodopa. In these instances the total dose generally remains up to 8 mg. Ropinirole provides relief from Parkinson's disease associated tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement and balance issues.
In RLS, only the immediate release form of ropinirole is recommended with no more than 4 mg each day. Augmentation or worsening of the underlying RLS frequently occurs after about 6 months. This leads to an ever increasing spiral of drug use culminating in painful withdrawal. Ropinirole should now be limited to more severe instances of RLS.
Recently added cautions warn of heightened risk of impulse control disorders manifest by excessive gambling, spending and sexual activities. Other individuals experience psychotic like behavior, paranoid thoughts, agitation, confusion, delusions or hallucinations.

My neurologist just prescribed this for me 3 days ago. I have not started taking it yet. I like to do a ton of research before I start a new medication. I have multiple sclerosis and am suffering terribly with restless legs or rather restless body. I hope it works for me.

Whoa man idk. I just got done tapering Suboxone over a 6 months period with my sub Dr and the restless legs is absolutely unlivable. I had to get on something.

i was given 0.25mg one in the morning and one at bedtime. Doc MH (sleep doc) in Tennessee being fill in Christian county Kentucky . Is this concerning ? I am on clozapine also

I’ve been taking ropinirole since 2005 to treat RLS. It is the only medication, so far, that has brought me relief from RLS. HOWEVER, the side effects, such as Compulsive Control Behaviors are devastating. It is worth noting so, and looking for an alternative. Ropinirole is the generic of Requip.

I think I am having twitching and spasms from seroquel why would my doctor give me this medication anyone know . I cant wait to see a neurologist I hope they know whats wrong . He also gave me Gabapentin which I read can make twitching and spasms worst .

I've been on it since 2008 after renal failure. Now taking 5mg bid, experiencing extended daytime symptoms in shoulders and jaw. Would love info on augmentation syndrome.

Why in the world is this drug ropinirole out there when it has so many horrible side effects. I do not have restless leg syndrome however my legs have been hurting awful. It could be from the lymphedema but it wakes me up horrible leg pain so my doctor put me on a low dose of ropinirole.HCL 1MG.. I took it to see if it would work and it did help the pain. I don't like taking that strange drugs so I stopped taking it however the pain came back my doctor said I can take one every other day which I wanted to do ..now after listening to this I don't want to take it at all so what else can I take for my awful leg pain. Please help me I need some answers.
