My entire family are Roquemores with roots in Taylor County, Georgia, specifically Butler. My great grandfather was Cary “Duck” Roquemore, a freedman who moved to Texas in the 1800s. His father was enslaved, Augustus Roquemore, and his mother was a McCrary, also a slave. We show a slave owner named Jas L. Roquemore from Butler as a possible link. I wonder if Jas had any relation to your relatives there in your hometown of Mansfield. Duck moved to East Texas and set down roots there, there are many Roquemores all over that part of Texas.

@@wildcatroq24 Long ago our relatives came from South Carolina to GA. Later some of them moved to Texas. Maybe a few went on to California.

I’m from East Texas and my entire family are Roquemores. We own over 150 or so of land. My great grandfather was a free man who purchased that land after migrating from Georgia. There are loads of African American Roquemores all over East Texas and also Louisiana.
