Hello Rory, what a beautiful holistic look at your mum. I wouldn't be tired of talking about her either. Being the same age as her, I would be scared now let alone back then. The amount of inspiring women who took on their lot in life with emotional intelligence inspires me so much. She must have been a wonderful woman. I have bought the book.

Slightly off topic, Phil. I guess it will not be too long before Andrew's luxurious, hand made card scribbled with Christmas pleasantries in traditional broad nibbed pen arrives in horse drawn carriage to the sound of Aaron Copeland's Fanfare to the Common Man ? You must be as excited as a child on Christmas Eve or Edward on his wedding night when Wallis pulled out a pack of elastic bands . ( Tesco's 99p Selection Box with a freebie of a bic thrown in ,is more my cup of tea. )

What a lovely interview...yes, people's lives are a lot more complicated than we think looking at them from outside of their experiences...I grew up thinking my family were the weirdest, most difficult and complex of my circle - nope, they were weird in their own way and very, very typical in many other ways! I really enjoy these chats Phil...we've discovered Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum and soda water rather than Cointreau or Drambuie or Grand Marnier which we drink far too quickly 🤣😎I bought it initially to soak the fruit for our fruit cake that I should be able to get a bit better now the caravan oven thermostat has been sorted...if not, we'll buy more rum and try again🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh we love a spiced rum too! Especially when we go visit our daughter in pirate-obsessed Hastings, on the Sussex coast. Perfect for dark pubs in the dead of night. And thanks for the generous comments JM. I'm lucky to do this.

What a great conversation! Thank you, Phil. Listening to Rory made me think of the 50s and 60s in London. I've been reading Virginia Ironside books, especially "Janey and Me" about her mother who ran the first fashion program at the Royal College of Art. Virginia seems to have been a bit of a 60s It girl herself. We happen to have gone to the same odd little school run by her aunt, Miss Ironside across from Gloucester Rd tube station. I think you and your followers might like her! I'd love to hear her interviewed. And totally yes about wokiness. Of course we're used to seeing different bodies around the changing room: thin fat young old hairy non hairy multiple shades, various postoperative changes, but outside plumbing is the one NO. Identity politics is a diversion because most lawmakers won't take on entrenched financial interests. But there was one hope this week, find Amna Newaz interviewing Sherrod Brown on The Newshour. I follow commentators like you now because legacy media has buried itself. This election has been jarring for center liberals like me. But nobody is listening to ordinary people. Crony capitalism has to be reined in before proprietary capitalism is squashed. The gloom that descended on me when I was a kid and found out Rupert Murdoch had brought his brand to the US seems to have been realized. We have to talk to each other another way now. Thank you again for what you do.
@ErinAbou3 күн бұрын
Unfortunately the Left went too far here in the US. Sherrod Brown was part of the problem, Rupert Murdoch isn’t really the problem. He’s a symptom. A contributing factor. But the Left overtook the Democratic Party years ago and they did NOTHING to help the average American. My children didn’t even vote for Kamala Harris. They voted for third party candidates. ❤🇺🇸

Thanks for the thoughtful contribution Liz. And I will check Virginia out. As a fellow centre liberal and critic of Murdoch I feel your pain! 😊

Thank you so much, Phil. I am an American mother of two young adults who are high functioning on the autism spectrum, what used to be known as Aspergers. Both highly intelligent, well educated individuals, one male, one female. When they were teenagers and not before, both began to identify themselves as transgender. I love them both so much, but I worry about their ability to move through life, to live safely, and to be able to support themselves independently. However, their rights shouldn’t supersede mine as a woman born female, or the rights of others in society. I still hope my children will recognize at some point that this is all a facade, it’s not real. ❤🇺🇸

Um, I'm sure that I and others pointed out Lidia Thorpe's position on The Voice Referendum in the video comments. Many feel that Lidia Thorpe used The Australian Greens to get into parliament and then showed her true colours to the extent that they expelled her. The Greens are inching towards having influence by increasing the number of seats they win, at each election, by presenting the Green POV via the Westminster system. They don't want an extremist. But Lidia is very clear that she wants a Treaty, and she has her fervent followers. I suspect she also loves attention.

Lots of love from Michigan 🇺🇸 . I would love for you to dive into Trevor Reese Jones book . He was in my own opinion almost set up by Fayed cuz Fayed need's a scapegoat on poor decisions of August 31st 1997 . The book is fascinating & gives an insight on what a tyrant fayed was . I would bet my house on every room on that yacht & in the Ritz hotel suite where Diana stayed was wired for sound & video . Fayed was a gross pervert . Trevor's parents thought that the apartment Fayed let them use when Trevor was in the hospital in Paris after the accident was wired for sound cuz Fayed seemed to know things that only they talked about between themselves at the apartment . Especially when it came to the legal ramifications of Trevor & Fayeds parts possibly in cases in France & in Uk

Just amazing, this has been another great episode. Really looking forward to learning more about Lord Byron in next week's episode (I missed last week, gotta catch up!) 😆🙌
