This is one scene where I absolutely dislike Dean's character. This is verbal abuse. She answered the phone, because she wanted to take a message, but Rory hung up. Dean was worried that she would catch him cheating and manipulated her by deliberately trying to make her feel worthless for answering his phone with good intentions. Lindsay apologized for doing nothing wrong. Shameful.

The actress that played Lindsay, Arielle Kibbel, is actually pretty good in her scene. For the short amount screen time she’s given, she does a great job delivering her lines and her body language is awesome. The timidness and the desperate optimism she was trying to force out felt really genuine. To me she felt like a real young woman who doesn’t really know what she’s doing, trying her best to salvage a relationship that feels like it’s crumbling.

I think this sadly was his fate, I mean dean was a very sweet guy but even from the first season he was very aggressive towards Rory when she didn’t say she loved him back! I’ve also seen in other episodes he got too caught up in pleasing Rory he lost his own opinions and thoughts and then had bursts of anger towards her and his feelings would come out then. He is a people pleaser who gets walked all over and he hated Jess because he was so open with saying and doing what he wanted and people let him get away with it, also didn’t help that Rory had eyes for him. Unfortunately I think deans story was well fitted to him.

I think this scene does a REALLY good job at showing how people react when they feel bad about something they did. Almost always people who are feeling the way Dean did (like he was a bad husband, like Lindsay would find out he’d done something wrong, like his marriage was a mistake) try to make the person they’re fighting with feel those same feelings. So all the stuff he said had the intention of making her feel like a bad wife, that she was the one who made a mistake, that their marriage was a bad decision. It’s just really cool to me to see this mirroring technique executed so flawlessly on television like it is in real life. In summary: Dean sucks, but the writers nailed it

After Dean’s high school experience with Rory and heartbreak... it kinda seems sad the cycle continued. Like Rory strung Dean along when she was into Jess... the same thing happened where Dean is now stringing Lindsey along. You’d think he’d have more empathy for cheating and being shady from his past experience...

I think it was that Rory had chosen Jess and then gone to a big school, and he felt like he needed to move on from her and also do something with his life - and because what he always wanted was that wife that prepares dinner for her husband and etc., he thought he might skip to the happy ending of his story and move on by marrying Lindsay.

Rory straight up told him in high school that she left him for Jess because Jess was the bad boy and that turned her on. Dean was way too nice. Dean got smart and realised the only way to get with her was to become the bad guy (cheat on his wife)

This made me really sad for Lindsay. From the start I didn't want them to get married, they barely knew each other and it was so rushed. Lindsay didn't deserve to be treated this way after doing everything she could for Dean. Yes their lives seemed very bland, but Dean had no right to go behind Lindsays back with Rory. If he was unhappy in the relationship he should have told her. This made me fully ate Dean. You should never talk to a partner like that.

@@TheMarkmcr Dean has had incidents like this before and after this episode. This is just the worst of it. You’ve seen how he acted about the play at Chilton, and when Rory wanted to do more extracurriculars for school, and him throwing the first punch at the keg party even though he was dating Lindsay then and it wasn’t his business at all. Not to mention the other hostile encounters he had with Jess, like the fight in town square or when he was ordering for the construction workers. Or all of the other times he butted into Rory’s life after they broke up? How he threatened to “take” Rory from Jess the same way that he “took” Rory from himself. Him, still married, refusing to leave Rory’s dorm when she asked him to because she wanted to have a private conversation with Jess? Or how he told Lindsay he didn’t have time to go out with her and her friends but was suddenly free to “save” Rory from a bad date AND instead of taking her home right away he stayed and did the same thing he told his wife he had no time to do. I’m sure he went home and lied about that as well. Just because we only see this particular argument once doesn’t mean it’s the only time it’s happened. Rory is a jerk but she didn’t force him to do any of that. He made an effort to pursue her and he made the choice to cheat and to lie to maintain it.

He only went out that night because lindsay was spending time with her mom. Their marriage was shown to be going quite well until that selfish rant of hers. If dean had been behaving like this towards lindsay before, wouldn't her parents have done something about it?
