To be fair Lindsay seemed to be only just learning to cook while her mother was basically feeding them. She told Dean she was bored and we saw her just sitting at home waiting for him, while expecting him to take on multiple jobs to afford their lifestyle to the point he had to abandon his education. That was what Rory objected to. Don't get me wrong I think Dean and Rory treated Lindsay terribly but I don't think Lindsay's situation compared to Donna Reed.

Rory wore that dress to prove a point to herself. That despite how she was raised, being a "Suburban Housewife" isn't as submissive as one would think. When Rory did research on Donna Reed, she realized how uncredited she was in the entertainment industry. The lifestyle she portrayed was real for countless women/mother's in the US. Fast forward 20-40 years later, those ideals are dead and sexist in so many forms. I actually agree with Dean, what is wrong with a loving wife and mother wanting to have a nice home, and a loving family to provide for? To this day, even in 2020 there are plenty of "Real" Suburban Housewives out there that can just as easily cook the bacon and slaughter the hog at the same time. Sans the heels and waist shirt dress.

I applaud ALL Women who sacrifice themselves in one form or another to be the She-ro for their families/neighbors/friends/communities. I find it so disrespectful how Lorelei dismissed the "Donna Reed" way of life. In a way it reflects the life she grew up in and ultimately ran away from, never truly appreciating how Valued/Valuable women like that are to families/society.

I think this episode shows how Rory and Dean always could find a middle ground. He knew her aspirations. And he made sure to her he was happy with her, exactly the way she was. Rory understood his point of view and saw a lifestyle different than Lorelai's. I think they would be a mature and balanced couple. I can see he supporting her to follow her career. Probably he would massage her feet at the end of the day, as she complays about problems at work. If only Jared didn't leave GG for Supernatural... 😔
