Dean did have every right to be upset when he saw Jess walking out of Rory‘s house. However, I still don’t like Dean coming over to surprise her with ice cream when she told him that she just wanted to spend the night by herself. Let’s just say for the sake of a scenario what if Paris never popped up at Rory‘s house to study and Jess never came over with the food and Rory got to have the night she wanted: eating her Indian food, doing her laundry, and just watching some TV in her pajamas. If she was doing her little comfy night in alone and Dean came over because he just had to see her that would kind of be annoying. She still loves and cares about him it’s just that sometimes people need time to themselves. It’s OK to have a night to yourself to just re-charge and chill. Dean just couldn’t get that, which made him come off as super clingy. Like I said before I understand why he was upset with seeing Jess at her house because it did look like she was lying but I still don’t like how Dean came over and wouldn’t respect his girlfriend enough to let her be alone for once.

I know a lot of fans were upset about how Rory is pulling away from Dean because she is more attracted to Jess but these are teenagers and it’s their first romance. More often that not, first boyfriends/girlfriends don’t stay together. I felt sorry for Rory in this first scene because Dean is just yelling and being confrontational when it actually wasn’t her fault Jess was there. I know he’s panicking but that’s no excuse to blow up, in front of her friend might I add. However, the diner scene summarises the situation very well - Rory would lie! This is where I wish Lorelai had opened up to Rory more about her own emotional struggles in relationships and taught her honesty is the best policy. In short, been a mother who doesn’t sugarcoat instead of a friend who cheers her on in denial. Let’s not forget A Year in the Life, Dean happily married with a family and Rory still struggling with relationships. He was ok in the end and ultimately realised he and Rory were not a good match long term.

I'm at season 3 for the beggining... And putting aside what happened after third season, i'd like to defend Dean cause i feel like everyone is stepping on his nice personality. He was actually a really good boyfriend in season one. Who did not have any flaws at that point. I admit, he had some important temper problems, but can't we relate? You can not blame Dean's "Temper" everytime he gets angry. Rory was a terrible girlfriend. She basically cheated on Dean a couple of times. I can't imagine how i would react if my boyfriend told me that he was gonna have some alone time and end up spending time with the person who has a thing for him...and the fact that Dean underlining that he felt extremely uncomfortable next to him and told Rory about makes it just worse. Sorry if i'm being wrong but he had a right to be angry, she lied to his face. And from his perspective, everything was even worse. I get him. Rory kept flirting with Jess while he was dating Dean. He saw that, gently asked Rory about it and wanted her to be honest. But all she did was lying and playing him. All with that, Dean still loved Rory and tried stopping her from falling in love with Jess. It's really hard to lose someone you love, but it's even worse to see it happen. He witnessed everything, and the way he broke-up with her was the right way. She really needed understand how hard it was for Dean. And he resisted enoughhh. Still, after break-up, the first thing she did was going aftef Jess. They were total ass holes. Jess, for running after Rory while she was taken and trying to manipulate Dean to break up with her and Rory for cheating on him, lying to him, treating him like a garbage. Rory never deserved someone like Dean in general. He was so romantic and supportive of her. She attended a show he never wanted to, just for her hapiness. He was just so in love and was ready to do anything for her. He protected and gave his soul into making her happy. He may have been a bit controlling, yes. But can't we really explaing why? He was scared of losing someone. He was extremely in love, i can't blame him for that. NOTE: If jess really loved her, he wouldn't have manipulated her relationship with her boyfriend which would directly cause her sadness. He was selfish, he used a girl for making Rory jealous. He tried making Dean pissed so he would break up from her, which succed unfortuanetly.

People keep saying Dean was controlling and toxic, if he was, he could have gotten into trouble with Tristan from the very moment Tristan started messing with Rory and he did not, he could tell that Rory was bothered by the situation of Tristan but, here is the opposite. You can tell how Rory does not dislike the random situations that bring her close to Jess at all. I don't even get why people love Jess, he is problematic and is messing on purpose with Dean and Rory's relationship. Based on his judgment that they are different, it really disgusts me that he shamelessly chases her despite her being in the presence of Dean. And then, you have this amazing boyfriend who is always there for you and does things that are not in his interest because he wants to make you happy.
